Platforms Engineering Manager

You are a people manager with a background in DevOps who can ensure a small team of engineers can execute at a high level of technical excellence and stability. You are eager to work closely with other engineering teams to understand what will make developing software easier, and use that knowledge to craft a bigger-picture platforms strategy. You are committed to giving timely feedback to engineers of all levels and provide technical mentorship via PR reviews, pair programming, and other avenues. You have a strong DevOps skill set and continue to hone your engineering skills by spending a portion of your time coding. You exemplify Storyblocks values and are committed to building a diverse and psychologically safe team.

This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the US.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to create a platform strategy and roadmap focused on security and development speed.
  • Mentor and guide your team with regular code reviews, pair programming, one-on-one sessions, career and growth planning, and performance reviews.
  • Drive technical initiatives through hands-on work on platform tasks.

What You Bring to the Table:

Required

  • 2+ years of experience managing engineering team(s)
  • 6+ years of experience working as an SRE, DevOps, or equivalent role
  • 6+ years of experience working with cloud hosted applications (e.g. AWS, GCP)
  • 2+ Experience managing and scaling infrastructure using K8s, Terraform, and Helm
  • Experience with security best practices
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines ( e.g. ArgoCD, Circle CI, CodePipeline)
  • Growth mindset staying up-to-date on modern infrastructure technology and best-practices

Preferred

  • You are familiar with GitOps workflows and best practices
  • Experience with observability and application monitoring tools (e.g. Datadog, ELK)
  • You have some knowledge of PHP, NodeJS, Python, or Scala

  • Competitive and fair compensation: We believe in fair pay--equal pay for equal work. For each title, we consistently apply competitive salary bands based on market data and benchmarks which are reviewed twice a year. What you’ve been paid before, fear of conflict, or willingness to negotiate does not play a part in determining your pay.
    • The annual base salary range for this position is $197,000 - $221,000. Placement within the range is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: knowledge, skills, years & depth of experience, and equity with internal team members.
  • 401(k) retirement plan: We offer both a Traditional and Roth 401(k) with a company match.
  • Company-paid medical: Our medical, dental and vision premiums are covered 100% for you and your dependents.

Typically, employees take about three or four weeks each year. Plus, two company-wide week breaks in July and December as well as numerous Fridays off throughout the year to take advantage of 3-day weekends.
