Who we are looking for

Global Treasury ("GT") is the business unit that manages State Street's balance sheet while seeking to optimize net interest income (NII) and is a key business partner for all client-facing business units, sales teams, and relationship managers. The core focus is on managing State Street's investment portfolio, asset-liability risk, liquidity risk, funding and liability pricing, capital structure, and rating agency relationships. The business works closely with many departments across State Street including Operations, Legal and Controllership.

The GT Business Unit Controller Team partners with the business operating teams as well as other key partners such as Operations and Global Accounting Operations to ensure timely and accurate business information is recorded to ledger and reported. We are looking for a highly committed, technically sound and organized individual.

The role will involve understanding both financial & operational aspects of the business with the successful candidate being able to maintain and improve the overall internal controls of Company.

What you will be responsible for

As part of the GT Business Unit Controller Team, you will

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of business financial information in compliance with State Street policies and GAAP.
  • Partner with GT on new products and initiatives ensuring proper accounting is adhered to and that strong internal controls exist.
  • Build cross-department credibility, confidence, and collaboration with other functional areas.
  • Monitors effectiveness of financial accounting required to maintain reporting requirements and identifies potential improvements or issues.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in accounting, or related degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in an accounting or finance role. 2+ years public accounting experience is preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of US GAAP
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with accounting for investments in debt securities and / or interest rate derivatives
  • Ability to act as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication, sense of urgency as well as exceptional written skills
