Who we are looking for

The Prime Services and Secured Financing Trading Team is seeking to expand its footprint with an opportunity at 'Officer' level based in Hong Kong. This is the opportunity to be part of a small specialized and experienced trading team right at the forefront of frontier growth markets, working together to build stronger outcomes for our clients; there are significant opportunities to work with deep datasets to extrapolate value, working closely with our Trading and Algorithmic Solutions team in Boston. Consideration will be made to those who express a strong interest in global Fixed Income and Equity Markets, and those confident enough to take a view on something and be comfortable enough questioning the status quo.

Your job as a Prime Services and Repo Trader will be to learn the ropes quickly, assuming a role as a contributor to the bottom line; you will be expected to build your career and develop a network within the Securities Finance market and within the firm; you will be expected to act consistently and conscientiously, with the best interests of our clients in mind, to trade on a principal basis in an efficient, effective and profitable manner.

Over your time in the team, you will be exposed to a great mix of technology, innovation, operations, sales, trading, marketing, strategy, and relationship management. Support will come from on the job training, along with regular catch up sessions with your manager; there will be some latitude in the role, if you are hungry by nature and a self-starter, you will likely excel.

What you will be responsible for

As Financing Solution - Prime Services and Repo Trader - Officer you will

  • Provide trading flow and market color to borrowing and repo clients.
  • Actively manage clients locate request and response process via portal, Bloomberg, email or telephone in a prompt and expedient manner.
  • Manage securities lending book. Value, price and input securities lending transactions; optimize short positions coverage over dividend record dates; fully utilize long positions to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Manage repo and reverse repo activities. Quote rates, allocate cash and collateral balance with repo clients and counterparts, send trade confirmation and input transactions in system.
  • Work with Operations teams to manage collateral financing forecasting and ensure sufficient collateral coverage to fund borrowing requirements.
  • Facilitate all pending settlement issues by liaising with middle-office, operations teams to ensure timely and accurate trade settlement.
  • Manage post-trade book and record to ensure accuracy.
  • Continually seek for improvements in all areas of trading and other areas associated.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree level (BA, BSc...or international equivalent) is preferred.
  • Focus is for Mathematics and Technology orientated subjects.
  • Bi or Multilingual speaking would be very beneficial and pertinent to the role.
  • Securities & Futures Commission (SFC) registered Type 1 (Dealing in Securities) is preferable.
  • A preference is for a candidate to have a sound knowledge and understanding of Securities Finance, particularly within the field of Global Securities Financing (1-2 years).
  • Full training will be offered within a trading desk environment, although being able to work on your own initiative at times is a pre-requisite.
  • Corporate Action experience definitely highly valued
  • Strong analytical skills required; must be able to understand how market events translates into "value" within securities lending and repo activities.
  • Strong PC skills/proficiency a must; programming skills (such as VBA, Python) would be advantageous.
  • Prior Securities Lending/Prime Brokerage/Securities financing experience would be helpful.

Additional requirements

  • Flexibility in working hours is required as market conditions can dictate various alterations in the day-to-day business. General trading hours span from 7am to 5pm.
  • Office based role.
