The position is for a self-motivated Compliance Officer., AVP, with technical aptitude providing regulatory and financial crime compliance support as part of the Global Compliance team. The successful candidate will play a fundamental role in handling a wide variety of compliance-related matters, including working closely with the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in São Paulo, Brazil, in designing and implementing global and local compliance processes, policies and procedures, including executing compliance risk assessments and reporting compliance health to the appropriate governing bodies. This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office (4 days in office, 1 day work from home) to match your needs and role requirements.

State Street Bank and Trust (SSBT) engages in a variety of investment servicing activities in Latin America and the Caribbean (LatAm) including foreign exchange markets on a principal basis in State Street Banco Commercial in Brazil (SSBC). The Compliance department is part of the Global Compliance division - and responsible for the oversight of SSBT and SSBC businesses.

What you will be responsible for

As LatAm and Caribbean Compliance Officer, AVP, you will

  • Support CCO and Global Investment Servicing Compliance in executing compliance framework to ensure SSBT meets its legal and regulatory obligations in LatAm, including program health assessments, internal controls and governance reporting
  • Escalate to CCO and Global Investment Servicing Compliance and monitor product launches and/or changes in business models in SSBT to ensure that local regulatory programs reflect such developments and their accompanying legal requirements
  • Provide additional support with the AML and KYC compliance organization as well other solutions as appropriate
  • Help foster a positive culture of compliance by working proactively with the Business, Operations, Risk and Controls functions, and other Compliance professionals to ensure that best practices and systems are in place to facilitate SSBT business growth and the overall success in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and internal policy
  • Provide project management support on compliance-related projects and initiatives, as requested, to ensure they progress toward a common goal in alignment with agreed timelines

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience with Regulatory Compliance in the region (Latin America and the Caribbean)
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, law (or related field) or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of securities services, products and operations and associated laws, regulations and regulatory agencies related to assigned areas
  • Comfort in interpreting legal guidance (with the support of the Legal team) and turning these into operational policies and solutions
  • Experience executing on compliance, risk & anti money laundering controls initiatives
  • An effective and relatable "culture of compliance" mentality
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills
