CO Salary Range: USD 75,200.00 - 120,000.00 per year

As a Systems Engineer II, you will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide Operations Support Systems (OSS) applications and their associated operating systems and databases. Responsible for Application Administration of OSS applications supporting all Charter Divisions. Will participate in full life-cycle of systems engineering activities of high-quality, scalable solutions with a focus on Splunk Enterprise Elasticsearch implementations.

WHAT OUR SYSTEMS ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST


  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Administer the Splunk Enterprise implementation for optimal performance and availability for internal operations teams.
  • Process data onboarding and issue tickets in JIRA based on customer requirements or problems.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to review existing integration capabilities, data sources, and proposed solution designs for feasibility, cost and functionality.
  • Contributes to design sessions with Splunk Administrators,Principal Engineers,external operations teams and leadership.
  • Creates detailed design documents and functional specifications for existing applications / services.
  • Creates work effort estimates for assigned tasks and support prioritization and release management.
  • Perform implementation of defined software and automation solutions to improve reliability and observability.
  • Assists in development of self-service workflows with Principal Engineers leveraging automations and CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with and ability to leverage already established Ansible playbooks
  • Installs, administers, configures and maintains Splunk Enterprise including operating systems and related software.
  • Provides 'on call' support to resolve Splunk Enterprise and system/OS issues after normal business hours.
  • Assist with implementation of security best practices and initiatives throughout all layers of the application support model.
  • Define and drive best practices for monitoring, security, and platform reliability.
  • Manage issues and tasks using Kanban/Scrum and Agile methodologies in the JIRA/Confluence platforms.
  • Provide regular KPI and metrics data on platform health and governance to leadership.
  • Leverage automation and scripting for daily tasks, reporting, monitoring, data collection, data analysis and break/fix actions.
  • Write highly detailed procedures and other technical documentation to be referenced by technical peers and senior leadership in a knowledge base.
  • Work in a team environment and work effectively with people with diverse technical skills and backgrounds.
  • Work with the team to support, improve performance and architect the overall Observability platform.
  • Uses established change management processes, requiring operational procedures be performed with minimal customer impact, (i.e. during established maintenance window).
  • Documents systems configurations and upgrades.
  • Designs and implements change control policies and disaster recovery plans.
  • Monitors and assists in managing applications, device availability, network conditions and system reliability and performance, service and program maintenance and storage resources.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience

    • Three years (3+) Application Development experience in relevant areas.
    • Two years (2+) Network OSS application experience.
    • Two years (2+) System Administration experience.
    • Two years (2+) Database support and development experience.
    • Two years (2+) Experience in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).
  • Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience; May require Industry Standard Certifications.
  • Technical Skills

    • Demonstrate in-depth ability to use Jira and Confluence platforms for ticket management and documentation.
    • Demonstrate in-depth ability to troubleshoot application problems.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of OSS applications and softwarelog management platforms such as Splunk Entperise and ElasticSearch.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control of the systems engineering process.
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge using Ansible and Ansible playbooks.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of network and systems engineering systems concepts and system/super-system skills, including HPE Reliant and Dell PowerEdge bare metal servers, and VMWare systems.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and experience working in an Agile/Devops environment.
  • Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to conduct design sessions to specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality.
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications.
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures.
  • Work Environment

    • Office Environment.
    • 'On Call' support, on a rotation basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Hat Linux systems administration.
  • Large scale enterprise application support.

Preferred Work Related Experience

  • Five years (5+) Application Development experience in relevant areas.
  • Three years (3+) Network OSS application experience.
  • Three years (3+) System Administration experience.
  • Three years (3+) Database support and development experience.
  • Three years (3+) Experience in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).

Preferred Education

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator certification.
  • Splunk Core Certified User certification.
  • Splunk Core Certified Power User certification.
  • Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin certification.

The base pay for this position generally is between $75,200.00 and $120,000.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
