Principal Engineer I

CO Salary Range: USD 110,660.00 - 196,460.00 per year

Are you ready to drive engineering activities that will take Spectrum's telecommunications and signal processing systems to new heights? As a Principal Engineer I, you will collaborate with technical operations staff on system design and configuration, while guiding design teams and advising team leaders to ensure cutting-edge solutions and seamless integration. In this impactful role, you will be at the forefront of technological innovation, maintaining and enhancing critical hardware, software, and electrical systems.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas.
  • Write code and integrate packages (software/application), and writing supporting test cases: (e.g. unit, devtest, automation) for various project assignments and provide recommendations to peer review coding sessions.
  • Create custom embedded Linux distributions leveraging OpenWRT, or Ubuntu and tools such as Yocto.
  • Understand and adhere to Spectrum coding best practices and principles when developing or integrating code as well as when conducting code reviews.

  • Bring a sense of urgency to ensuring Jira ticket / and Confluence documentation hygiene.
  • Be curious, and relentless in pursuit of solutioning; analyze and revise existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.

  • Test and review system designs.
  • Provide engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in embedded Linux software programming in language C, domain architecture, industry tools and trends in order to give strategic recommendation and provide technical support to these areas as needed.
  • Utilize GitLab pipelines; create and run Ansible playbooks.
  • Mentor and guide the work of technical staff.
  • Review work plans and design and advise on improvements
  • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Know, understand and follow company policy.

What You'll Bring to Spectrum

Required Qualifications

Education
  • Master's or bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience

Experience
  • 5+ years engineering work experience
  • 5+ years project management work experience

Skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
  • Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
  • Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
  • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances
  • Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,660.00 and $196,460.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
