Job Summary
A safety intern supports a company's health, safety, and environmental (HSE) department by assisting with inspections, training, data collection, and program development to ensure workplace safety and regulatory compliance. Key duties include identifying hazards, investigating incidents, preparing safety reports, conducting audits, and performing administrative tasks related to safety programs. This temporary, hands-on role provides practical experience in occupational health and safety standards for students and recent graduates pursuing a career in the field.
Learning Outcomes:
- Learn to recognize various hazards (physical, chemical, biological, psychological) and their severity within the workplace.
- Understand how to create plans outlining specific measures to eliminate or control identified hazards.
- Contribute to the creation and upkeep of a healthy and safe work environment through site-specific programs and policies.
- Understand and apply the basic concepts of emergency preparedness and response.
- Learn to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences about safety matters.
- Work effectively as part of a team to address safety problems and contribute to safety goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assisting with safety inspections,
- Maintaining compliance documentation,
- Supporting the development and implementation of safety programs,
- Helping with incident investigations
- Assist in developing and updating safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Help plan, organize, and deliver safety training sessions and orientations for employees.
- Floor presence identifying risks and hazards
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Help with administrative tasks,
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
- Participate in safety program initiatives to foster a safety-first culture.
Requirements:
Sparton interns must meet the following criteria:
- Active pursuit of a Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.
- Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without holding a visa or sponsorship.
- Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to work on-site in De Leon Springs, FL
