HEAD OF SCHOOL

The Head of School will build, train and lead a highly qualified team of guides and staff. Administratively, the Head of School will supervise the effective development of the school’s Acton Academic program, increase enrollment and retention, manage finances, and provide input to SpaceX’s executive team on these initiatives. The ideal candidate will obtain a deep understanding of the Acton Academy education model and determine the best way to adapt the approach for each learning studio. This person will ensure the program continues to develop the skills and self-confidence to become independent and curious students. The Head of School will need to be on campus during regular school hours, overseeing day-to-day operations, while helping to mitigate any conflict that arises within the school community. The Head of School will also be an asset to the executive team and other members of school leadership as a resource and strategic visionary, with direct influence and direction of the school’s program. The Head of School is a full-time employee of SpaceX, working year round with hours including evenings, some weekends, and throughout the school year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This person will participate in admissions, hiring, classroom design, and other aspects as needed to ensure the continued success of the program through continued support of third-party services. They will assist guides in helping each student find their calling and reach their full potential.

  • Help guides, staff, parents and students understand and implement the school’s Acton Academic model of education in the classroom and in all activities that involve the school’s community
  • Assist Acton and other third-party providers in supporting our families and SpaceX employees
  • Attend to the intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth of each child and partners with faculty and each child’s parent(s) in these efforts
  • Build and train a highly qualified and effective guides and staff
  • Actively manage the school educational program, operate finances, facility, administrative staff and duties
  • Support third party service providers with overseeing and supporting all educational options, both onsite and in the local community
  • Oversees day-to-day operations, while mitigating any conflict within the school community
  • Organize speakers and field trips to inspire students
  • Communicate actively with parents

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years of professional experience in children’s educational field

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 18 semester/27 quarter hours of ECE credit
  • Montessori, project-based and/or experiential learning experience
  • Loves to experiment, evaluate, and improve on everything they do
  • Proven excellence in written and oral communication skills, and comfortable using and learning a variety of technology tools
  • Deep respect for all children

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
