FOOD SERVICES SPECIALIST

The SpaceX Hospitality team serves employees, customers, government partners, potential clients, and visitors with snacks, daily meals, and full-service events. The Food Service Specialist is a team-oriented role for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments while working collaboratively or independently. They must be familiar with basic customer service principles and have a firm understanding of food and beverage safety principles. This role requires identifying and utilizing equipment such as soda machines, hot/cold food holding and storage, basic restaurant/catering equipment, serving utensils, and small wares. Individuals must handle task ownership flexibly, switching tasks throughout the day as needed.

Daily duties may change on short notice based on staffing and business needs, including but not limited to serving guests, meal production, supporting orders and inquiries, maintaining dining space cleanliness, stocking and distributing products, taking inventory, and setting up/working stations at various outlets per leadership specifications. This position supports SpaceX’s mission by delivering excellent customer service, a welcoming atmosphere, flexible support, accurate order fulfillment, and quality food/beverage production to boost morale and productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up, maintain, and clean workstations, surrounding areas, dining, work, and storage spaces to ensure safety and organization  
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance on departmental tools, equipment, and food service areas (including but not limited to beverage stations, coolers, and hot holding units) 
  • Complete daily record keeping, tasks, and opening/closing checklists  
  • Meet time and quality standards set by leadership while working with urgency  
  • Engage customers, fulfill orders, and demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills (including menu changes)  
  • Assist with catering and event requests  
  • Adhere to proper safety guidelines and food safety/sanitation practices  
  • Interact professionally with guests, supervisors, and co-workers
  • Support proper product rotation, storage, and delivery according to food safety requirements 
  • Follow stocking routes, track inventory, and receive/distribute products around the site
  • Assist with catering or pop-up events

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate 
  • 1+ years of experience in food preparation, customer service, or other food services support roles

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience in food preparation, customer service, or other food services support roles
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative in a dynamic, fast-paced environment 
  • Previous work experience in a high-volume output environment 
  • Previous work experience in team settings 
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills 
  • Effective time management skills 
  • Effective understanding of food safety and sanitation practices 
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office primarily)
  • Familiarity with allergen identification and common dietary restrictions
  • High level of professionalism
  • Experience in a corporate environment
  • Basic understanding of beer and wine service
  • Knowledge of different styles of service

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid state issued driver’s license
  • Ability to carry large, heavy items unassisted (up to 50 lbs.) 
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods – up to 8-12 hours a day
  • Able to perform frequent bending, stooping, and lifting of objects through entire shift 
  • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime, weekends and holiday(s) as needed
  • Adaptability, problem-solving skills, and extreme attention to detail 
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively, including but not limited to training of incoming team members 
  • Ability to work gracefully under pressure 
  • Must have or obtain Food Handlers card (training provided internally as needed)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:       

Level 1: $22.50/hour

Level 2: $23.50/hour

Level 3: $24.50/hour                

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Employees in Washington State accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
