Become a Power Utility Distribution, Senior Project Manager at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll be responsible for project managing all of the Transmission Pole replacements (1900 poles to manage annually, with $88.5 Million annual budget) throughout SCE's entire service territory providing direction and influence to all of the Transmission Grids. Pole replacements are tied to SCE's #1 Priority to Keep the Lights On and are key to SCE's operations, ensuring safety, and maintaining reliability for all of our ~15 million customers. This position will project manage projects across the IPSEC model, includes scoping, estimating, project budgeting and approval, oversight of project execution, and project close-out.

Key Focus of Role:

  • Management of Transmission Pole cost per, management of schedules and timelines, ensuring that all pole compliance requirements and obligations are met, providing project controls oversight, continuous improvement recommendations, strategic/tactical decision-making, and would work with all 8 of the Transmission Grids and all other partners to improve overall project management effectiveness and efficiencies.
  • Manage a number of highly visible, continuous improvement initiatives as part of improving the long-term pole project management performance for Transmission pole replacement projects. Initiatives will include improving cycle times, improving cost efficiencies, and other critical performance metric improvements.
  • Seek resolutions to complex problems and recommend improvements to Sr. Management. Lastly, this Sr. PM will help in operationalizing identified improvement opportunities, seek consensus from all project partners, and ensure a seamless transition towards adopting proposed changes.
  • Take on other issues and emerging priorities that will accomplish results through matrixed and/or multi-functional teams consisting primarily of high-level professionals, managers, other project managers, as well as vendors who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.
  • Provide senior-level leadership in resolving organizational objectives and policies while ensuring delivery of results.
  • Guide the transformation of the culture within Transmission and help the organization improve consistencies across all 8 Grids and align around project management standard methodologies.
  • Effective Communication is required as this position would interact with Senior Leadership across T&D as the single point of contact for Transmission Pole Project Management. This will include using senior-level expertise to help influence and guide negotiations, to align internal or external representatives, to accept proposals and projects where there may be resistance to collaborate or participate.
  • Critical project decisions are generally made independently with strategic decisions recommended to senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage high impact, strategic projects effectively using project management principles, tools, and techniques under time constraints, shifting priorities, and making critical decisions, providing direction to supporting team members
  • Responsible for directing project initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure for core disciplines of project management (scope, schedule, and budget) independently and providing guidance/mentorship to subordinate Project Managers /Associate Project Managers
  • Lead moderate to highly complex projects and deliver on strategic objectives by influencing stakeholders across multiple departments and exercising independent decision making, with limitied consultation from leadership
  • Collaborates with Project Managers, department/division senior and executive leadership, and other stakeholders internal and external to the company as a key consultant to provide recommendation and make critical decisions that that have broad impacts across multiple organizations
  • Manage planning, development, and/or execution of electric transmission/distribution projects, which may include but is not limited to, wildfire, infrastructure replacement, load growth, poles, line upgrades, maintenance, or installations
  • Drive milestones and report on large transmission and/or distribution projects which may include designs, schedules, projects applications, compliance and safety documentation, regulatory filings, and local and state agency coordination
  • Responsible for technical standards, specifications, and architecture that optimize system reliability, efficiency, capacity, resilience, and asset management
  • Oversees technology integration efforts including new SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, digital substations, automation, and advanced grid analytics platforms
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of experience in project management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience working in the Utility Industry.
  • Experience leading and implementing small to large scale electric utility projects, including identifying, maintaining, and adjusting the cost, scope, and resources, leading vendors, and being responsible for the formal planning, tracking, and reporting of project performance.
  • Experience in relevant Distribution function including but not limited to: Project Management, Planning, Engineering, Construction, etc.
  • Project Management and/or PMP Certification.
  • Experience with effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, and team building.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project.
  • Strong decision-making abilities
  • Experience and ability to effectively lead with influence and communicate with impact to various types of audiences.
  • Experience and ability leading large, cross-functional initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Additional Information

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.\u202f Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.\u202f Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • Position will require up to 25% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
