The Role…

Location- Based in IL, NY, or TX

At Soho House, the Membership Manager will lead the Cities Without Houses (CWH) membership strategy across a portfolio of North American markets, with a current focus on Detroit, MI; Boston, MA; Montreal, QC; and Philadelphia, PA. This role is responsible for building and nurturing vibrant membership communities, driving day-to-day recruitment and retention, and overseeing all aspects of the member experience, including events, content, and communications. As business priorities evolve, market coverage may shift to meet emerging opportunities.

They will manage their time to handle recruitment, retention, member inquiries, and face time with members and their guests. You will be a direct link between our members and the rest of the business, acting as a voice for our members.

An integral aspect of the role is developing relationships and understanding the member community, their mindset and needs, and consistently being present for our members.

The membership manager will report to the Head of Membership, ensuring membership targets are achieved and that the overall member experience is consistently high-quality, friendly, and memorable. They will work cohesively with their peers in events and content to deliver the best possible experience for all CWH members.

Main Duties…

  • Recruitment & Retention: Drive membership growth by expanding Soho House’s network in existing cities and identifying emerging markets, leveraging a strong network in the creative industries to attract high-profile members from sectors such as film, art, fashion, media, and tech. Develop and execute strategies to meet quarterly targets, ensuring the member base remains diverse, inclusive, and representative of each city’s creative community. A marketing background is advantageous for implementing effective retention, win back, and engagement strategies, while overseeing and being fully responsible for the recruitment process.
  • Committees & Local Leadership: Build, grow, and motivate local Membership Committees in your cities, ensuring they are of sufficient size, reflect Soho House’s diversity and inclusion pledge, and represent the unique character of each community. Foster strong relationships with committee members to encourage active participation in the membership process and support the recruitment of high-caliber new members.
  • Member Experience & Events: Curate, implement, and host engaging events and experiences for CWH members across your region, ensuring each delivers the unique “Soho House magic” and fosters strong member engagement. Oversee the onboarding process for new members, ensuring they feel welcomed, integrated, and connected within the Soho House community.
  • Communications: Execute a communications plan for your region that delivers relevant, regular, and engaging content to keep members informed and excited about local offerings. Partner with membership leaders to create compelling content, manage internal communications for a seamless member experience, and build relationships with regional press to amplify Soho House’s presence.
  • Soho House Magic: Partner with membership leaders to prospect and recruit high-profile members for your region
  • Liaisons: Oversee and be responsible for the recruitment and management of liaisons in your cities, setting them objectives and managing their performance
  • Membership Quality & Admin: Review all membership applications to ensure candidates meet Soho House’s high standards of quality and caliber. Oversee membership administration by ensuring internal processes are followed accurately and managing member data through CRM systems such as Salesforce. Host member introductions as needed to welcome and integrate new members into the community.
  • Local outreach & Networking: Engage in extensive networking and outreach within your region’s creative communities to identify and build relationships with key individuals, connectors, opinion leaders, and inspirational creatives. Foster these connections to promote Soho House, build brand awareness, spread goodwill, and attract high-caliber new members.
  • Member Behaviour & Support: Handle member concerns and behavioral issues, making difficult calls when necessary, and documenting the outcomes in line with Soho House policies.
  • Local Intel & Market Awareness: Continuously gather insights on the local creative scenes, staying attuned to trends, challenges, and opportunities. Remain informed about the social and cultural landscape across your cities to ensure Soho House remains relevant, competitive, and connected to the communities it serves.
  • Collaboration with Wider Membership Team: Participate in international membership calls, meetings, and brainstorms to share best practices and ideas. Collaborate closely with Soho House teams across events, marketing, and content to ensure consistent engagement and deliver a high-quality member experience.
  • Brand Ambassador: Represent Soho House globally, embodying the brand’s core values, ethos, and commitment to fostering creativity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • New Openings: Support the transition from a City to a House as needed, working closely with the House membership team to ensure a smooth member journey and maintain engagement throughout the transition.

Requirements/ Qualifications:

  • Motivation - Self-motivated and driven to get things done independently without a team around them
  • Network – The ideal candidate would have a network of contacts in the creative industries across North America, particularly in the cities listed in this JD
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset– Can think outside the box in coming up with tactical initiatives/opportunities to deliver on goals.
  • Written and Verbal Communication Skills – Excellent written skills with experience of writing marketing emails, event copy, press releases, and emotionally intelligent verbal communication skills with the ability to handle difficult conversations with grace
  • Personality - Charismatic, confident, and creative personality, ideally passionate in the creative verticals of fashion, art, music, and film, and a natural networker
  • Organisation – A highly organised person with the ability to manage a complex workload and team across the region, prioritise successfully to deliver results with a great eye for detail
  • Events – Experience of programming and/or producing events is a bonus
  • Diversity & Inclusion - Well-travelled individual with an educated worldview and a learned appreciation of different cultures, politics, areas, creative groups, and social scenes, and a passion for promoting the vision of Soho House’s diversity and inclusion pledge & policies.
  • Systems & Software - Daily use of the Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, and other systems
  • Experience – The role would suit someone from a PR or marketing background who has experience in building relationships, writing copy, having a large network, events, and partnerships
  • Travel - Flexibility to travel frequently around your markets, as well as working late nights and weekends as and when required

In accordance with Illinois law, the salary range for this role if filled within Chicago is listed below. The range for the position in other geographies may vary based on market differences. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
