Volunteer Manager - Holocaust Survivor Program

Position Summary: The Volunteer Manager organizes and implements a complete volunteer engagement strategy, including planning, recruitment, training and coordination for the Holocaust Survivor Program. The position serves as the primary contact for volunteers and the HSP liaisons. The Manager will work to ensure the volunteer outreach, training and evaluation goals under the JFNA grant are adhered to and will provide Person Centered Trauma Informed training to volunteers and staff in alignment with the organization's strategic initiative. Responsibilities include overseeing and collaborating with existing volunteer programs throughout the Holocaust Survivor Program, identifying new intergenerational opportunities to strategically engage volunteers, spearheading volunteer recruitment, and tracking volunteer activities and interactions and promoting volunteer impact.

  • Develop and implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program, including reducing social isolation for Holocaust survivors and expanding our capacity to serve Russian speaking survivors.
  • Create policies and procedures to guide the volunteer program.
    • Update existing volunteer training curriculum.
    • Develop and implement formal oversight protocols for volunteers for all roles.
  • Develop and lead volunteer recruitment and placement processes.
    • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain qualified volunteers with the appropriate abilities and aptitudes.
    • Conduct outreach and volunteer recruitment to expand and sustain volunteer participation.
    • Coordinate the application and interview protocols to match and place volunteers in appropriate positions, clarify their roles, provide orientation to their roles and training and support throughout their service tenure.
    • Work to recruit and engage Russian speaking volunteers.
  • Identify and implement intergenerational opportunities to engage volunteers within the Holocaust Survivor Program.
  • Develop, and lead training of staff and volunteers to ensure success.
    • Develop and facilitate training for volunteers on Person Centered Trauma Informed interactions with survivors.
    • Develop and facilitate training for professional service providers on trauma informed interactions with volunteers.
  • Ensure volunteers are supported and held accountable for success in conjunction with existing standard program protocols.
    • Establish a standardized evaluation program for individual volunteer performance review.
    • Serve as a resource to staff who engage volunteers in areas of volunteer support and accountability.
  • Measure and communicate volunteer impact.
    • Identify and implement a tracking system for volunteer involvement and impact, including, but not limited to hours contributed, number of survivors served, and number of volunteers provided, and number of intergenerational social activities.
    • Regularly report on the contributions made through volunteer engagement as required by JFNA grant, including the impact on clients ‘social isolation.
  • Recognize volunteers for their impact and contributions and expand the volunteer recognition program.
  • Assist in managing the budget for volunteer activities and program expenditure and resources.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Adhere to organization's standards by completing annual mandatory trainings in a timely manner on topics including - but not limited to - Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, IT Security Awareness, Compliance, OSHA, HIPAA and any other training the organization may deem necessary in regard to regulatory compliance or good business practices.
  • Supports organization's mission by striving for excellence in all aspects of their job with a focus on positive interpersonal relationships with co-workers.
  • Adheres to the organization's policy regarding absenteeism and appearance.
  • Ensure timesheets are submitted in a timely manner.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 per year commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements: Minimum B.A. in human service-related field.
  • Experience with recruitment, training and supervising volunteers and working with staff required, preferably in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Specific software or computer skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Problem solving abilities while multi-tasking; ability to exercise sound judgment, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Work Conditions

  • Business office environment with phone and computer use, must be able to travel within the NYC metropolitan area. Ability to lift and transport outreach materials, up to 20 pounds.
