Senior Engineer I, Multi-technology Product Test

Schneider Electric is looking for a Senior Test Engineer I, Multi-technology Product Test for our Lake Forest, CA location.

This is an on-site position.

As a Senior Systems Test Engineer within our Test Management Group, you will lead Verification and Validation (V&V) activities for Safety and Critical Control products throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a Senior Systems Test Engineer within the Test Management Group, supporting Verification and Validation (V&V) activities for Safety and Critical Control products throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Drive V&V activities as an active member of Agile project teams, from initial planning through formal product release.
  • Plan, lead, manage, and execute Verification and Validation activities for complex development projects involving hardware, embedded software, and application software.
  • Collaborate with global project teams, V&V teams, and external partners to deliver high-quality products while maintaining a zero-defect mindset.
  • Support efforts to minimize time-to-market while maximizing product quality and reliability.
  • Debug software and firmware products through systematic testing methodologies.
  • Develop, maintain, modify, and execute comprehensive software test plans.
  • Create, review, and analyze test standards, protocols, and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed test documentation and results to support software troubleshooting, debugging, and product improvements.
  • Analyze test outcomes to validate existing functionality and recommend corrective actions when required.
  • Partner with R&D Development Engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical input and feedback for evaluations of programming languages, systems, and computational software.
  • Ensure high-quality integration of software with scientific computation, data acquisition, and processing systems.
  • Apply and maintain company quality standards across all testing and validation activities.

What will you do?

  • As a Sr. Systems Test Engineer you will be part of our Test Management group and will be responsible for the Verification and Validation activities of our Safety and Critical Control products during all development lifecycles phases. This includes driving the V&V part of projects as an active Agile team member from their initial planning to formal product release.
  • The responsibilities will include planning, leading, managing, and executing Verification and Validation Activities for complex development projects that include both hardware, embedded software, and application software development.
  • The challenge will be to minimize time to market and maximize product quality with a zero-defect mentality while enthusiastically engaging a global project and V&V team and outsource partners.
  • You will also debug software / Firmware products through the use of systematic tests to be develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for company products.
  • Develop, modify, and execute software test plans. Analyze and write test standards and procedures. Maintain documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software.
  • Analyze test results to ensure existing functionality and recommend corrective action. Consult with R&D Development Engineers in resolution of problems.
  • Provide feedback in preparation of technical appraisals of programming languages, systems, and computation software.
  • Ensure quality computer integration into the overall functions of scientific computation, data acquisition, and processing.


What qualifications will make you successful?
  • B.S. in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 + years' experience in Verification and Validation of PLC, DCS, Medical device or embedded systems and/or PC applications.
  • IEC 61508 functional safety certification / verification and validation (V&V) processes in strict accordance with the IEEE 1012 standard, Programming experience in Phyton with automation framework an added advantage.
  • This role demands extensive expertise in PLC system testing, including the comprehensive validation of Input/Output (I/O) modules, hands-on PLC programming, and robust communication verification across industrial protocols like Modbus TCP, HART, and OPC UA.
  • By leveraging advanced automated and system-level testing methodologies, you will optimize product quality and ensure compliance with functional, safety, and regulatory standards. Operating as a specialized technical professional, you will independently manage your priorities, interpret engineering precedents, and actively coach and review the work of other professionals while handling escalated, non-routine technical challenges to directly impact customer satisfaction.
  • Experienced with basic Lab equipment such as scopes, DMMs, AC/DC power supplies, logic analyzers, function generators, etc.
  • Experienced with formal SW Test development techniques, using configuration management tool (such as TFS,ADO,jira etc.), requirements traceability tool (such as DOORS, JAMA, etc.), SW analysis tools (such as Klocwork, QAC, etc ), SW unit test tool (such as VectorCAST, etc.)
  • Experienced in writing formal Verification and Validation planning documentation, test procedures, descriptions, and reports.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter, team player, multi-tasking with good time management skills and the ability to function across organizational boundaries

For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $101,600-$152,400 USD per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.

The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Schneider Electric also offers a comprehensive benefits package to support our employees, inclusive of medical (with member reward points), dental, vision, and basic life insurance, Benefit Bucks (credits to apply towards your benefits) flexible work arrangements, paid family leaves, 401(k) + match, well-being and recognition (including service anniversary) programs, 12 holidays per year, 15 days of paid time off per year (pro-rated in the first year of employment based on start date), opportunity to purchase company stock (eligibility depends on start date), and military leave benefits.
