Senior Automation Engineer

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will provide expert technical support and consultation for Schneider Electric's Industry Business, with a focus on PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and Industrial Networks. This role requires strong customer engagement, advanced problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality automation solutions. Travel is expected, offering opportunities to work closely with clients across various locations.

What will you do?

  • Provide technical support for internal and external customer queries related to Industry Business and Global Operations.
  • Deliver expert consultation and solutions in the areas of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and Industrial Networks.
  • Configure, develop, and commission SCADA & PLC projects across multiple platforms.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with team members to foster collaboration and high team morale.
  • Establish and nurture customer relationships to ensure satisfaction and reinforce Schneider Electric's brand reliability.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of Schneider Electric Industry products to support:
  • Engineering tasks and processes
    • Product licensing and upgrades
    • Application support and improvements
    • Sales and industry solution support
    • Enterprise and digital transformation initiatives
  • Stay current with product developments and emerging technologies.
  • Advise clients on improvement initiatives with a value-driven approach.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Translate customer constraints into actionable improvement opportunities

What skills and capabilities will make you successful?
  • Extensive experience with SCADA systems, particularly: Aveva Plant SCADA; Aveva System Platform.
  • Strong knowledge of Schneider Electric PLCs (M580, M340) and EcoStruxure Control Expert.
  • EcoStruxure Process Expert experience would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of structured programming, industrial communication protocols, and networking equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across diverse cultures.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Resilient under pressure and able to make sound decisions in high-stress environments.
  • Committed to safe working practices aligned with corporate values and strategies.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on deliverables and project milestones.
  • Skilled in project management and negotiation.

Who will you report to?
  • Reports to Industry Automation Operations Manager
  • Internal teams, i.e. Sales, Service Technical Support and Operations
  • External Teams, i.e. customers across SADC

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in:
    • Programming and configuring SCADA software and PLC platforms
    • Working with Microsoft Operating Systems and industrial communication networks
    • Managing customer relationships and delivering technical support
  • Proven experience in writing technical reports and documentation.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations, including conducting risk analyses and audits
