An exciting career opportunity has arisen for an Environment, Health & Safety Specialist (EHS), based in Kenya and supporting the East African market. This role is responsible for leading EHS initiatives and programs across the Services, Projects, and Facilities departments. The focus is on ensuring full compliance with local regulations while cultivating a strong safety culture across all field project sites and operational environments.

What will you do?

  • Provide direction to the organization on Safety, Health and Environmental matters .
  • Develop and implement the Health, Safety & Environmental system, to meet the requirements of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 respectively, at all sites under the responsibility of SESA.
  • Support the responsible person on each site with activities in the workplace, related to the above systems, to ensure work practices are aligned towards the attainment of Health, Safety and Environmental objectives.
  • Manage a Health, Safety and Environmental management program with objectives and time scales.
  • Develop and maintain risk registers in all areas to enable the prioritization of identified risks with actions to minimize risk thereby continuously improving the system.
  • Act as the correspondent to the International Operating Division on Safety, Health and Environmental matters and provide feedback on performance of the System.
  • Participate in EHS compliance and program audits.
  • Drive improvements in EHS culture, awareness, and accountability.
  • Keep management apprised of progress and significant developments on key projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement in EHS performance and programs.
  • Assist in responding to significant incidents and government requests/notices.
  • Interface with environmental, health and safety regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with applicable local regulatory requirements and maintain compliance framework up to date

What skills and capabilities will make you successful?
  • Regulatory knowledge and experience working with different East African regulations covering occupational health, process safety, chemical management, emergency preparedness, property transfer, site investigation, environmental requirements, waste management, contamination and capable of learning requirements and applying this experience across the countries.
  • Proven project and program management skills.
  • Experience managing projects and/or EHS compliance.
  • Able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and other responsibilities, adjust to changing priorities and to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on available information.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working within a globally diverse, cross-functional, internal and external team across different time zones.
  • Excellent listening capabilities, inclusiveness, ownership and leadership skill.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Who will you report to?
  • This position will report directly to the Vice President, Services for ESA (English Speaking Africa). It is a cross-functional role that works laterally with key stakeholders including the HSE Specialist, Service Team, Global Supply Chain (GSC), Facilities, and Globe GSC.
  • The role operates within a collaborative team environment, requiring strong coordination and communication across departments to ensure alignment on service delivery, safety standards, and operational efficiency.
  • This is an individual contributor role, not a people management position, but it demands a high level of influence and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will be expected to lead initiatives, drive process improvements, and support cross-functional projects that contribute to the overall success of the Services function in the region.

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
  • Bachelor of Science, preferably in Chemical, Environmental, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic from an accredited University.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Environment, Health & Safety.
  • Professional certifications (NEBOSH, IEMA, etc).
