What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an R&D Systems Engineer to support our dynamic group in Mobile Guardian Transport Electronics Engineering, Testers, and Cables.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic team in Mobile Guardian Transport Electronics Engineering, Testers, and Cables. In this role, you will leverage systems engineering principles to implement multidisciplinary approaches that drive innovation in systems design, development, and testing of complex systems and technologies.
Your creativity and critical thinking will be essential as you proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensuring successful product realization in collaboration with various subsystem teams and stakeholders.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Initiate and execute innovative processes, products, or systems through basic and applied systems engineering research, focusing on enhancing performance and reliability.
- Determine and document testing conditions, and prepare comprehensive test, maintenance, operations, calibration, and administrative procedures to ensure safety and compliance at hazardous facilities.
- Design, develop, and oversee the fabrication of experimental hardware or test components, systems, and equipment, ensuring they meet stringent performance criteria and specifications.
- Contribute to the preparation of all work planning and control documentation, including detailed failure mode analyses and safety cases, to support operations in hazardous environments.
- Analyze and interpret test data to provide actionable insights and recommendations for system improvements and troubleshooting.
- Propose and evaluate alternative solutions to technical challenges and obstacles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for systems, including detailed drawings, work instructions, reports, test plans, and manuals, ensuring clarity and accessibility for all stakeholders.
- Collaborate on specific tasks to support technical activities, working closely with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and deadlines.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$99,400 - $193,600
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance or equivalent.
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D Systems Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO).
- Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience: - Advanced degree in a relevant discipline
- Experience with:
- Tester equipment, testbeds, and SNL test facilities
- Working in a schedule, budget, or requirement constrained environment
- Experience working with the Primary Standards Lab on SBUs
- Sandia work planning and control methods
- Defining technical requirements, validating execution of requirements, planning, designing, integrating, implementing, and testing engineering solutions.
- Confident and capable of working in classified environments and handling classified components.
- Knowledgeable about the specific technologies relevant to hazardous facility operations, including pulsed power, radiation sciences, high power, and explosives. Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
