What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Year-Round Gradute Intern to join our dynamic team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team including interns, senior engineers and staff from both Sandia National Labs and other national labs.
  • Submit computational fluid dynamics and finite element modeling jobs to high performance computing clusters.
  • Generate tables, plots, and graphics for presentations, reports and journal manuscripts.
  • Perform data analysis with MATLAB or Python.
  • Communicate research results effectively through written, oral, and other creative media methods to Sandia project lead.

Salary Range:

At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintatin a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with finite element analysis and CFD, e.g., using ANSYS Mechanical, Fluent, MAPDL
  • Experience with data analysis and programming, e.g., MATLAB, Python or similar;
  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD), e.g., Solidworks or similar;
  • Familiarity with wave energy converter (WEC), current energy converter (CEC)
  • Experience with running numerical simulations using high-performance computers
  • Familiarity with Linux operating system

About Our Team:

Sandia's Water Power Technologies Department performs research and development to improve performance, lower costs, and accelerate the deployment of water power technologies. The primary focus area of the department's work is Marine Hydrokinetics (MHK) research with lower levels of effort in Offshore Wind (OW) and Hydropower. The department is responsible for all aspects of Marine Hydrokinetic device design, performance, system reliability, system integration, and environmental evaluations for the Department of Energy's Wind and Water Power Technologies Office and in collaboration with industry partners. Offshore Wind Energy activities currently include Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) design and analysis and foundation scour. Hydropower efforts focus on seasonal simulation and optimization. Through partnerships with industry, academia, other National Labs, and public dissemination of results, Sandia serves an important role in energy security for the nation

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
