What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an Environmental Technical Professional (Job Title: Environmental Professional) to provide biological/ecological support to Sandia's Livermore, California facility.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Provide the services of a professional ecologist/biologist involving:
- Identification of invasive species, migratory birds, and federal and state listed species
- Preparation of wildlife or natural resources management plans and survey reports; and responding to wildlife monitoring, removal, and relocation
- Will periodically be required to remove reptiles (non-venomous), birds, feral cats or other species from site facilities and workspace using safe work procedures, or contract with professional services for such removal when needed
Perform ecological/biological services including: - Site vegetation planning and monitoring
- Guide/undertake responses to wildlife calls
- Develop and implement plans to protect nesting birds including species of concern
- Perform bio-surveys for work in and near the Arroyo Seco
- Conduct preconstruction bio-surveys for (construction) projects
- Prepare incidental take permits (ITPs) for wildlife
- Document procedures for conducting routine ecology monitoring and surveys
- Create training materials and conduct training courses for members of the workforce on the tasks listed herein and the procedures developed to guide the tasks
Update/create ecological procedures such as: - Ground Squirrel and Feral Cat Control
- Mountain Lion Action Plan & Bullfrog Control Plan
- Review background documents including the regulatory requirements and permits listed in this Scope of Work in order to conduct work listed herein
Coordinate the program by: - Coordinating the program results with an interdisciplinary environmental and safety team
- Be responsive to customer requests from other departments
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time in Livermore, California.
Salary Range:
$86,700 - $167,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological, Ecology or Natural Resources Management or related field plus three years or more of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Ability to be achieve the status of a "USFWS approved biologist" within 6 months of hire
- If offered the position, you may be required to demonstrate your fitness to perform certain physical aspects of the position, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- Knowledge of the regulations governing wildlife management (e.g. the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Endangered Species Act)
- Experience submitting permit applications to regulatory agencies
- Knowledge/experience with performing biological assessments for NEPA
- Experience with preparing applications and submittals for review and approval by CDFW, U.S. Army Corps of Engineering, USFWS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
About Our Team:
The SNL/California Environmental Management Department is responsible for the implementation of all environmental programs and activities at the Livermore site in support of research and development in combustion, bio-defense, energy and nuclear security disciplines. The department implements five Environmental programs (Air Quality, Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Planning, Waste Management and Pollution Prevention).
