What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a S&E Project Manager who will be embedded within a component development Product Realization Team (PRT). In this role, you will provide technical insights (e.g., component inputs/outputs, size, weight, power) while balancing schedule and budget constraints and your responsibilities will include engaging with customers to align customer requirements with product capabilities, collaborating with production counterparts to ensure PRT requirements are met within production capabilities, and proactively coordinating with internal PRT members to manage competing priorities effectively.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Support electronic neutron generator, ferroelectric neutron generator and Isolator Programs: Collaborate with existing S&E Project Manager (PM) and Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead(s) to manage and support multiple products and programs, leveraging synergies and similarities to optimize resource allocation and project execution .
- Enhance Technical Awareness and Communication: Maintain a deep understanding of the technical aspects and interactions of various products within the Center, ensuring informed decision-making and effective communication of project status and technical insights to stakeholders.
- Facilitate Rapid Pivoting and Prioritization: Work closely with the S&E PM and PRTs to quickly adjust priorities and tasks in response to fluctuating development and production demands, aligning efforts with organizational goals.
- Engage with Weapon System Customers and Production Partners: Speak on behalf of the PRTs with Weapon Systems and production teams, fostering collaboration to ensure project deliverables meet quality and performance standards.
- Manage Relationships and Knowledge Sharing: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external customers while fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and mentoring within the department.
- Oversee Risk Management and Development Planning: Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle and integrate development and production schedules to create comprehensive project plans for timely delivery.
- Prepare for Future Demands: Proactively prepare the department for onboarding additional Weapon Systems and PRTs, ensuring the team is equipped to handle increased workload and complexity.
- Backup for Other S&E PMs and PRT Leads: Provide support and continuity in project management and component development activities as a backup for other Project Managers and PRT leads as needed.
Due to the nature of this work the selected applicant will need to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$114,000 - $227,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field or higher plus 5 or more years of technical experience in component development or product realization
- Current PMP certification or equivalent certification, or the ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Active DOE Q-level Security Clearance or DOD equivalent required to start
Qualifications We Desire:
- Master's Degree in Engineering (or STEM discipline) or Master's in Business Administration
- Experience executing the Nuclear Weapons 6/6.X Product Realization Lifecycle
- Experience planning product development builds
- Experience coordinating product deliveries
- Experience reporting programmatic status (e.g. Earned Value Management)
- Experience reporting technical status (e.g. TRL/MRL)
- Experience with project management tools (e.g. Primavera P6)
- Experience managing project resources for budget and schedule
- Experience preparing presentations
- Experience presenting to customers and stakeholders
- Experience building relationships and establishing credibility with scientists, engineers, and technical project teams.
- Experience in technical management processes: lifecycle management, requirements engineering, configuration management, risk management, verification and validation, etc.
- Experience developing tools and processes to optimize technical management of science and engineering projects
- Demonstrated teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with leadership at multiple levels, customers, other organizations, and technical leads.
- Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, including an ability to succinctly explain complex technical concepts.
- Demonstrated leadership experience involving technical and programmatic responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with management, customers, and stakeholders at all levels.
About Our Team:
Department 7582 is responsible for the lifecycle management of Electronic Neutron Generators (ELNG) and the development of isolators. Activities include sustainment of stockpiled components, supporting components in production, developing qualified products, and advancing future designs.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
