What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an experienced cybersecurity/cryptography professional that is passionate about operationally-oriented research and development at the intersection of cryptography and vulnerability research. We are looking for a motivated individual that can understand and develop modern cryptographic solutions that can be applied to a variety of technologies. These multidisciplinary teams are addressing the most complicated national security problems facing our government sponsor. As part of the team, you will engage with work across the technology spectrum, including embedded, desktop, enterprise, and mobile systems, as well as globally connected networks of networks.
You will help to mature an existing program supporting US government mission needs through collaboration with your team and sponsor to identify creative, novel, and context-appropriate solutions. You will also be responsible for collaborating closely with your peers and management across Center 5600 and the Labs to bring the available depth and breadth of expertise to bear. You will steward relevant capabilities inside and outside the National Security Program (NSP).
To support Sandia's national security missions, our cybersecurity scientists and engineers engage in a variety of research areas including:
- Emerging cryptographic techniques (Post-Quantum Cryptography, Cryptographic Security Protocols and Standards)
- Manual and automated reverse engineering, vulnerability assessment, and malware analysis
- Modeling, simulation, and emulation
- Hardware/software trust and assurance
- Virtualization (system and network) and cloud technologies
- Network operation and information protection
- Low-level research to support ongoing experimentation and development in OSes, hypervisors, and multiple levels of firmware
- Mobile devices and smart technologies
- Real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded systems, including Internet of Things (IoT)
- Data science, data analytics, and information theory
- Intrusion prevention/detection and response, penetration testing, and forensics
Salary Range:
$114,000 - $227,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A bachelor¿s degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a US DOE Q and SCI clearance, which may include a polygraph examination
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D S&E Cybersecurity candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Forensics, Mathematics or a directly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Experience in one or more of the following: reverse engineering, software vulnerability assessment, web application assessment, computer networking, computer architecture, compilers, or similar computer security topics.
- Proficiency in scripting or high-level programming.
- Familiarity with secure-system design principles and information assurance principles.
- Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to develop technical ideas and results and present them in oral and written form in a concise manner.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Experience analyzing, developing, or evaluating cryptography, network security protocols, PKI, and/or digital signatures.
- Experience with or training in one or more information security topics such as: Operating System design and security, cryptography, network security protocols and specifications, driver and low-level software debugging, embedded system design, control/data-flow analysis, compiler optimizations, and memory management
- Well-developed leadership skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a principled and focused manner
- Experience with program analysis, reverse engineering, and debugging tools (e.g., angr, BAP, IDA Pro, Binary Ninja, gdb, Ghidra, windbg)
- Ability to acquire and maintain a US DOE Q and SCI clearance, which may include a polygraph examination
- Active SCI clearance

Security Clearance:
