The North America Service Business (NASB) team is responsible for developing and delivering best-in-class digital experiences to consumers, operating a distribution platform that connects the TV and mobile ecosystems, and providing unique solutions to advertising clients through its proprietary Samsung Ads platform. The North America Service Business organization is a fully integrated business unit, with product, engineering, ad sales, marketing, partnerships, and supporting functions working together seamlessly to drive the success of the business.

Role and Responsibilities

The NASB team is looking for a Head of Content and Services Counsel to lead the legal and privacy team. The Head of Content and Services Counsel will work closely with the executive team to ensure that all legal matters are handled in a timely, efficient and appropriate manner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing the team across all legal contract negotiations and reviews (including content and software licenses, app distribution agreements across CTV and mobile, ads partnership agreements, and a wide variety of other commercial agreements), coordination with cross-functional stakeholders across Samsung HQ and U.S. subsidiaries on consumer T&C's and global policy, and investigation and tracking of incidents and breaches. This individual will need to seek final approvals, when necessary, from SEA & SEC Head of Legal and Head of Global Privacy Office

Responsibilities:

  • Advise executives, senior leadership, and the broader organization on various legal matters around the business.
  • Ensure the organization's legal policy and frameworks are in compliance with federal and state law, as well as being appropriate for the execution of the business.
  • Review, draft, negotiate and execute a variety of agreements, with particular focus on: (1) App distribution across CTV and mobile, (2) Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television content licensing and partner distribution (3) software and technology vendors, (4) ad sales and strategic marketing vendors, (5) original programming and production licenses.
  • Develop and deliver legal training to employees.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to develop and maintain strong working relationships across all functional areas to facilitate a partner-based approach.
  • Handle communication and coordination with cross-functional stakeholders across Samsung HQ and US affiliates on consumer T&C's, global policy, and operations
  • Handle any investigation and tracking of incidents and breaches.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships, as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Passion for digital media and a genuine curiosity for emerging digital technology
  • Comfortable with an ever-changing landscape and ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent business and legal judgment, as well as a superior ability to assess risk and determine priorities based on that risk assessment and the needs of the business
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on time
  • In-depth experience with domestic and global content licensing, linear and on-demand rights/distribution, ad tech, and related regulatory matters; up-to-date on the various licensing structures and processes that are customary in the media industry
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills (both oral and written). Ability to communicate legal issues in a clear and understandable manner. Inspires trust and confidence through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to quickly understand complex products and services, while identifying key issues and risks and offering creative solutions for business enablement
  • Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctorate degree from a U.S. accredited law school
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with a law firm or combination of law firm and in-house experience
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of New York
  • Comfortable with coast to coast travel, as needed

Compensation for this role, for candidates based in NYC, is expected to be between $250,000 and $290,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
