Position Summary

Samsung Electronics America (SEA) is looking for a Content Counsel to support to our Content and Services team. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing and negotiating content licenses, app distribution agreements, as well other related contracts relating to ad tech, marketing and advertising, and a wide variety of other commercial agreements as needed.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, negotiate and execute a variety of agreements, with particular focus on: (1) App distribution (via online and mobile syndication, mobile applications, broadband-connected devices and platforms (2) Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (3) original programming and production, (4) ad sales and strategic marketing, (5) software and technology
  • Drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide variety of deals with content providers, entertainment companies, advertising demand-side platforms and supply-side platforms, and software developers
  • Advising and supporting the Content and Services team and other business partners within SEA and Samsung headquarters in South Korea
  • Advising on legal issues arising from existing content and commercial relationships

  • Excellent negotiating skills, keen analytical abilities, a pragmatic approach to problem solving, as well as a track record of success in handling complex business and legal issues in a fast-paced, agile and evolving technology-driven business environment
  • Experience with domestic and global content licensing, linear and on-demand rights and distribution, and related regulatory matters
  • Proven ability to quickly understand complex products and services, while identifying key issues and risks and offering creative solutions for business enablement

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a law firm or combination of law firm and in-house experience
  • In depth experience in commercial contracting and content licensing and distribution
  • You understand ad tech, digital media and OTT, and are up to date on the various licensing structures and processes that are customary in the media industry
  • Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctorate degree from a U.S. accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of New York
  • Comfortable with coast to coast travel

Compensation for this role, for candidates based in NYC, is expected to be between $165,000 and $190,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
