Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. About the role:

Your team will build the solutions that our customers rely on to keep the world moving. This can vary from helping our partners reduce the number of accidents in their operations, to how they remain compliant or reduce the amount of fuel they consume. The potential to make an impact and drive change here is huge.

We primarily work across web and mobile, collaborating closely with product managers, product designers, and firmware engineers to build out our feature sets.

We are looking for a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual who loves finding solutions through collaboration. Creating and maintaining a culture of feedback, and making things happen while keeping things fun for the whole team, will be something you will strive to achieve and uphold.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You want to build for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving the world's physical operations.
  • You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of full-stack engineers to deliver customer-driven solutions in a fast-paced environment. The technology stack includes Typescript, React, ReactNative, Golang, GraphQL and Spark.
  • Support the growth of individual engineers on your team through mentoring/coaching and career-pathing.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to develop new products and enhance existing ones.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Obsess Over the Customer, Build for the Long Term, Growth Mindset) as we scale globally and across new offices.
  • Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing team.
  • Be hands-on and contribute to feature development.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 3+ years of management experience with a team of at least 5 engineers
  • Has a background of 5+ years working as a software engineer
  • Has experience building, delivering, and managing large-scale customer-facing web applications
  • Understands the value of team culture, communication, and collaboration
  • Seeks to establish a culture of continuous improvement
  • Experience developing individual contributors based on their needs and interests as well as the needs of the company
  • Is a technology business partner - recognizes the value in relationships with team members in and out of Engineering
