What's the job?

This position is responsible for processing biweekly payroll for represented and non-represented employees within an industrial manufacturing setting. The position performs a variety of administrative functions in support of the Plant Manager and staff and to coordinate various finance and administrative functions with Payroll, Financial Shared Services and Gypsum Corporate Office.

  • Process biweekly payroll according to Saint-Gobain policies and procedures and legal compliance in an accurate and timely manner by working with internal departments and corporate and third party resources
  • Provides administrative support to the Plant Manager and the HR Department through: assigned duties and back-up functions, meetings, presentations, union and legal communications, audit compliance and a variety of complex and confidential monthly and quarterly reports for departments and corporate resources as requested
  • Improves processes and systems related to job function and as requested
  • Improves and maintains assigned documents and written procedures/SOPs so all training material is up to date and assessable
  • Participates in WCM improvement activities as directed and maintains required documentation
  • Develops and maintains a filing system and related archives according to legal requirements and Corporate Record Retention Policy
  • Checks and prepares hourly time sheets, performs data entry and balances batch entries for hourly payroll and month end accruals
  • Maintains and updates the time management system as necessary to ensure accuracy of punches, shift schedules and reliable access to employees
  • Prepares Union, Payroll and HR reporting (e.g., seniority, pension/health and vacation/holiday tracking and calculations, probation, shoe eligibility, attendance, union dues) in designated electronic systems and creates payment requests as needed
  • Tracks Seattle Sick Leave accrual and other time off for plant employees
  • Partners with HR to track attendance and with approval from HR issues warnings or attendance awards in a timely manner as needed
  • Creates and submits Employee Change Notice (ECN) forms in a timely manner to track, document and communicate job and physical location movement, salary changes and other work or personal employee information
  • Prepares and maintains employee records as required by Federal and State agencies and Saint-Gobain policy as well as plant lists including directory, employee addresses and phone numbers
  • Works with third party vendors on FMLA, Unemployment, and other LOA requests
  • Back up to coordinating post offer background checks and drug screens
  • Back up to conducting and/or assisting with new employee orientation
  • May be required to assist with office management functions not limited to ordering uniforms and supplies inventory.

Required Qualifications

#2 "Your Skills Matter"

What do you bring?

  • 3-5 years of payroll experience required
  • Experience working with Kronos or UKG required
  • Working in a union environment preferred
  • 2-4 years' experience working in a manufacturing facility preferred
  • Strong familiarity with WA State laws specifically relating to payroll
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision
  • Core competencies include effective verbal and written communication skills, listening skills, ability to organize and retrieve information, and to handle people tactfully and effectively.
  • Proficiency in PC skills including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and others
  • Must be flexible to adapt to changing and varying work requirements
  • Must be able to work across multiple shifts when required
