The User Connections team is building the next-generation social platform at Roblox, empowering our global community to connect, share, and create meaningful interactions at an unprecedented scale. Our vision is to create the largest, safest, and most innovative social network in gaming for a billion users—leveraging trusted connections, immersive experiences, and cutting-edge safety features to redefine how people interact online.
As the Senior Director of Engineering, User Connections, you will lead and grow multidisciplinary engineering teams across the stack, responsible for the technical and product vision of a new social ecosystem. This includes real-time content sharing, the largest and most robust connections and friends databases at Roblox, and seamless, safe user interactions. You will work closely with product, moderation, and cross-functional partners to deliver a social platform that’s engaging, safe, and scalable—pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in online community building.
You Will:
- Shape and drive the direction, strategy, and priorities for the User Connections team
- Build and scale social infrastructure technology, integrating advanced moderation and safety features, scaling some of the largest databases at Roblox, enabling real-time content sharing systems at scale
- Lead teams across the stack—UX, UI, and Backend—ensuring seamless, performant, and delightful user experiences
- Collaborate closely with product counterparts and cross-functional partners in aligning engineering and product strategy for our Roblox social network
- Guide ownership of roadmaps, projects, and outcomes, balancing innovative features with reliability, safety, and civility
You Have:
- 12+ years engineering leadership, including 6+ years in a senior leadership role
- Deep experience leading teams in UX, UI, backend engineering, and architecture delivering UI experiences and robust backend systems at scale
- Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams in highly technical production environments
- Exceptional cross-functional skills, working with peer teams, product, moderation, data science, and business stakeholders

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
