About the team + role

Robinhood is seeking a forward-thinking Data Privacy Architect with a passion for data privacy, governance, and security to join our team. This role is designed to support our Privacy Architecture, Programs, and Operations team, as well as other privacy and security teams and initiatives across the organization.

As part of our team, you will work with various departments within Robinhood to ensure our products and services uphold the highest standards of data privacy, governance, and security.

What you'll do

  • Perform comprehensive privacy architecture reviews as part of Robinhood’s Privacy by Design program. This entails evaluating existing and new technology architectures, identifying privacy risks and compliance issues, and recommending technical controls or enhancements to ensure privacy by design principles are fully integrated

  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Legal, and Compliance teams to integrate privacy-by-design principles into product and technology development, business processes, and project life cycles. Provide expert technical guidance to ensure that data privacy is an integral part of our products from the ground up

  • Direct the selection and implementation of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs). Ensure these technologies are aligned with our privacy architecture and contribute to the robustness of our data protection efforts

  • Evaluate emerging privacy technologies, frameworks, and regulatory requirements, including potential impact on our privacy architecture and recommend adjustments to maintain compliance and enhance data protection

  • Drive initiatives to facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices in data privacy within technical teams. Enhance overall privacy awareness and competence across the company, reinforcing the importance of privacy by design in our culture

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field

  • 4+ years of experience in data privacy, security, or a related technical field, with a focus on privacy architecture and design

  • Strong understanding of data protection laws and regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA, and their application to technology design and processes

  • Demonstrated ability to work with technical teams to implement privacy-by-design and default principles in complex systems

  • Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), data anonymization techniques, and secure data management practices

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills

  • Effective communicator, capable of conveying complex technical principles to non-technical stakeholders

In addition to the above, although not essential for this position the following would be helpful:

  • Relevant privacy or security certifications (e.g., CIPT, CISM, CISSP) are desirable.
