Riot Sydney is looking for an experienced Manager, Software Engineering to join the Sydney-based Hextech Gameplay team.
Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas but also value the opportunity to work across multiple domains. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll offer creative solutions to organizational design. You’ll also serve as mentor for engineers, guiding their performance and finding growth opportunities delivering compelling gameplay experiences.
The Hextech Engine empowers game capabilities for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. As an Engineering Manager on the Hextech Gameplay Team, you’ll help drive and innovate on the core technology behind the developer tools and runtime components of the Hextech Engine. Your team will also support developers and designers with targeted discipline and workflow updates so they can focus more on the creative process.

- Work with team leaders to create a organization and staffing plan that supports product goals
- Support engineers' careers through mentorship and identifying growth opportunities
- Manage the team's health and performance from a place of empathy
- Support your team by working collaboratively with product, delivery, technical, and quality leads
- Interview and recruit new engineers to meet the changing needs of the team
- Support the engineers with your own deep engineering expertise
- Stay hands-on with your team's tech, overseeing the technical design and deliverables of the team
- Participate in team's on-call rotation where you may be required to be on-call during certain periods outside of your normal working hours
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or comparable field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer programming in an object oriented language
- 1-2+ years experience directly leading an engineering team as an Engineering Manager
- Experience in Agile processes and continuous delivery
- Experience working with complex code bases
Desired Qualifications:
- Professional experience with C++
- Professional experience in the games industry
- Experience with various game engines and developer tools
- Experience working on a live-service product
