The Laboratory Technician I will be responsible for performing testing of basic components and systems in accordance with engineering specifications, procedures and acceptable industry standards under the guidance of / in support of senior staff.

This position will serve our Water Heater Division, located in Montgomery, AL.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Use simple blueprints and work from drawings as they relate to design of sheet metal components and general assemblies.
  • Apply standards and standards-based methods for empirical testing to evaluate assigned problems.
  • Apply the basics of airflow measurements and computations, temperatures (dry bulb, wet bulb, dew point, relative humidity) and pressure - temperature relationships to test setup and execution.
  • Setup, adjust, and change test samples and setups for testing, perform the required testing in accordance with engineering specifications or defined test practices.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, summarize, and document data and information gathered during testing.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair test equipment, instrumentation and systems in accordance with engineering specifications or defined test practices.
  • Use of hand, welding and brazing tools.
  • Provide regular verbal and written reports summarizing project results and conclusions to project leaders.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to operate computer systems for data acquisition, test result recording, project status reporting, and to document/manage test documentation, records and reports.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to manage electronic communications and test and project/task documentation
  • Demonstrate basic skills in documenting test results and preparing formal reports of test results, conditions and procedures.
  • Complete assigned tasks and participate in R&D design development teams according to defined requirements.
  • History of regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Ability to work overtime with no restrictions


Qualifications:

WHAT YOU NEED
  • Associates or Vo-tech Degree (2-year vocational program) from an accredited school in HVAC or related technical field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Successful completion of a Mechanical Aptitude assessment
  • Demonstrate basic plumbing, electrical, and construction skills
  • Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of sheet metal design
  • Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of test standards
  • Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of materials properties and engineering cycles
  • Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of test performance
  • Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of equipment / system maintenance and repair
  • Demonstrate understanding of design fabrication concepts
  • Possess knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, document and file management software (will be assessed)
  • Demonstrate ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrate an organized and detailed approach to test documentation and data collection
