SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Governance, Risk, and Compliance Senior Manager to join Rakuten International's US Controllership organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the control environment by ensuring that: (i) Policies, procedures and processes are defined and updated; (ii) Risks are identified and managed; (iii) Controls are tested; (iv) Exceptions are remediated; and (v) Data is analyzed and used for continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate must apply a risk-based approach to planning, executing, and reporting to diverse audiences within internal audit, external audit, and process owners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates risks and develops standards, procedures, and controls to manage risks.
  • Define and document business process responsibilities and ownership of the controls in FloQast.
  • Continuously monitor controls, exceptions, and risks.
  • Perform test of design and effectiveness of controls.
  • Support process owners with (re)designing and implementing internal controls.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to improve business processes. Provides remediation guidance to process owners. Track remediation activities and implementation of mitigating controls.
  • Develops reporting metrics, dashboards and risk register to document risks, control failures and gaps.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on SOX compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support their SOX audit procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Considerable knowledge of and skill in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and US SOX/JSOX requirements.
  • Ability to conduct quality control reviews of audit work products and supervise audit team members.
  • Extensive experience conducting operational and/or financial audits and risk assessments at a large, multi-national public company.
  • Excellent project management skills with an ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively and confidently discuss audit findings and/or control gaps with leadership and develop business-focused recommendations to strengthen controls.
  • Deals successfully with ambiguity, managing multiple priorities and able to lead organization through complex changes.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a fast-paced culture, changes in the environment and shifts in priorities.
  • Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIA, etc.) preferred.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in either Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in implementing, managing, reviewing, and improving internal controls for governance, compliance and quality, assurance, and risk management programs.
  • Experience performing internal or external audits (financial/operational/IT) in accordance with relevant professional standards.
  • Skilled in designing and implementing compliance and control frameworks including business process reengineering.
  • Strong understanding of SOX requirements, internal control principles and audit methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.
