Overview

Rain Bird is seeking a creative manufacturing engineer to improve current production processes through lean methodology, jig/fixture design, and effective project management. The Manufacturing Engineer will also assist in the design of irrigation pump stations and apply design standards to improve manufacturability. This position requires creativity and the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, 3D CAD experience, PLC controls experience, and experience in lean manufacturing techniques. Experience with fluid systems and/or pump and motor applications is a plus.

  • Manage projects to improve manufacturing processes ensuring safety, quality, and output.
  • Design jig and fixtures to improve the throughput and quality of fabrication processes.
  • Identify and justify opportunities to apply industry best practices regarding production methodologies.
  • Implement lean methodologies to reduce scrap and downtime while balancing assembly operations.
  • Generate production prints, Bills-of-Material, and assembly/use instructions for a variety of equipment.
  • Produce customer approval (customer sign off) drawings.
  • Work with other plant functional groups including maintenance, production, product engineering, materials, and quality to ensure production line uptime and product quality.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or similar discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or mechanical engineering roles
  • Competent in the design and support of fabrication equipment and production lines
  • Solid understanding of fabrication / machining techniques.
  • Competent in the design of jig and fixture design.
  • Excellent theoretical and applied knowledge of design and mechanical engineering concepts.
  • Experience in drafting 3-D assemblies and producing 2-D production prints.
  • Ability to perform financial analysis and cost justifications.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • SolidWorks experience
  • Experience in lean manufacturing
  • Certifications in project management, lean manufacturing, and/or six sigma.
  • Experience with pump and motor applications
  • Experience in jig/fixture design for steel fabrication
