We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Research Associate, Tissue Diagnostics experienced in conventional immunohistochemistry and antibody validation in FFPE tissue sections. Knowledge of immunofluorescence, imaging of brightfield/fluorescent slides and digital image analysis are a plus but nor required. Additional knowledge of biomarkers in the oncology/immune-oncology space is preferred. The successful candidate will be actively involved in development, automation, and standardization of multiplexed immunofluorescent assays on FFPE tissue, and imaging thereof.

The service lab will provide fee-based services to pharma and biotech clients, help them understand trial results, in particular as results relate to data provided by Quanterix' Simoa blood protein platform. Candidates should be interested in biomarker science and translational pathology, well versed in laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) and microscopy. This person will report to the Principal Scientist, Tissue Diagnostics Lab Services or to the Senior Director, Tissue Diagnostics Lab Services at Quanterix.

What You'll Do:

  • Testing, optimization, and validation of antibodies on FFPE tissue sections.
  • Identification of available antibodies for new targets of interest, preparation of background presentations on target biology, antibody performance and expected staining patterns.
  • Imaging and review of stained sections; quantitative QC of run controls.
  • Acceptance testing of reagents and materials.
  • Processing (staining and imaging) of client samples.
  • General laboratory maintenance including maintenance of equipment, inventory management, ordering of supplies, reagent preparation, documentation thereof. All equipment, instruments, and accessories must be operational, and irregularities are reported in compliance with Quanterix Quality System.
  • Supporting sample and inventory tracking/management.
  • Working with senior members of the team to design and carry out experiments, interpret and present data. Presentation of findings to the team internally.
  • Contributing to the development and update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
  • Sectioning of FFPE tissue blocks (if experienced and trained as a Histotechnologist).

What We'll Expect From You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related fields.
  • Relevant professional experience (at least 2+ years) in a laboratory/pathology environment.
  • Experience with antibody optimization/validation, titration techniques, and general laboratory practices.
  • Experience with IHC, processing of FFPE tissue samples, automated staining systems, pathology workflows.
  • Experience with sectioning of FFPE tissue; HT/HTL certification desirable but not required.
  • Experience with fluorescence immunohistochemistry, imaging, and image analysis are a plus but not required.
  • Work experience in a laboratory/analytical setting compliant with CLIA and GCP regulations.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced team environment, ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with tracking/LIM systems, electronic laboratory notebooks, document management systems.
  • Histotechnology certification is a plus but not required.
  • Passion for pathology and personalized medicine.
