The Principal Data Engineer Role
You will be part of the Enterprise Data Management (EDM) team, reporting to the Director EDM. You will be responsible for development, maintenance and training delivery for internal Data Integration and Infrastructure solutions using Qlik products and other complementing technologies. As a Principal Data Engineer, you will be responsible for end-to-end implementation, environment administration and critical business operations support.
Here’s how you’ll be making an impact:
- Be the technical/tool expert for Data Engineering solutions within the team.
- Lead/manage all aspects of the project development life cycle – that is requirements identification, design/analysis, effort estimation/planning, task prioritization, development, performance, scalability, best practices, and testing.
- Responsible for data modeling and architecting end-to-end data management solutions, with excellent working knowledge of Snowflake, SQL, AWS, Github, Qlik/Talend, dbt and/or Databricks.
- Collaborate with architects and development team members, to establish common development standards/processes, along with ensuring compliance with Qlik IT/Security standards.
- Maintain proper documentation of developed solutions, with a well-defined change control and deployment process to ensure compliance with SDLC practices.
- Collaborate with Support, Product and R&D teams to address any product challenges, while also providing product improvement feedback.
- Lead solution development initiatives and partner with other Enterprise Data & Analytics functions.
We’re looking for a teammate with:
- BA/BS degree in Software Engineering, Information Management Systems, or a related field.
- 10+ years of building Data Engineering solutions.
- Advanced understanding of data management/governance frameworks and integration development process.
- Extensive experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake or similar cloud technologies.
- Strong working experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), GitHub, Java/Python scripts, Message Queues (Kafka) and Containerization (Docker / Kubernetes).
- Working knowledge of Qlik products (i.e. QTC/Talend Studio and Qlik App) or similar tools.
- Knowledge of leading Data Management, Data Governance and Master Data Management solutions.
- Advanced SQL skills and experience writing complex queries.
- Experienced with Agile methodology.
- Snowflake and/or AWS certifications preferred.
- Able to effectively lead and manage multiple activities, while ensuring timely delivery to business.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems, to support development teams.
- Great team player, along with strong relationship building skills.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $130,000 CDN per year. Final compensation offered by Qlik will be based on factors such as the candidate’s location, job-related skills, education, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Qlik offers a comprehensive benefits package, eligibility requirements for benefits will be controlled by applicable Qlik plan documents and policies.
