Description

As a Data Migration Lead, you'll lead the data migration and analysis work for our clients, partnering closely with our teams and clients to shape and identify requirements and develop new data models in line with the client's data migration strategy. This role is at the heart of our digital transformation projects, where you will be instrumental in shaping and executing strategies that integrate cutting-edge technologies and practices.

This role requires a strong background and demonstrated experience in leading the transition from legacy 'on-prem' systems to native Azure-based cloud solutions.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Develop and refine data migration strategies tailored to client-specific needs, focusing on the transition from legacy on-prem SQL server databases to Azure PaaS environments.
  • Oversee the entire data migration lifecycle, ensuring alignment with client objectives and seamless integration with new technologies like Azure SQL DB, Azure Data Factory, Synapse and Power BI
  • Analyse, validate and refine existing data migration strategies.
  • Develop comprehensive data migration plans, considering constraints such as project timelines, resource requirements, and potential risks.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the technical aspects of data migration, including the design and implementation of ETL processes using native Azure tooling as appropriate.
  • Lead the design and implementation of data protection measures throughout the migration process, including safeguarding data integrity, confidentiality, and availability during and after the migration process.
  • Work with our client's users, technical architects, and application developers to define the data migration requirements and structure for new applications.

Data Analysis and System Integration

  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of existing data structures and their compatibility with Azure-based solutions.
  • Design and implement data mapping and transformation processes to fit into the new system architecture, ensuring integrity and accessibility of data in the Azure environment.

Data Assessment and Mapping

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of existing data structures, identifying dependencies, relationships, and potential challenges.
  • Create data mapping documents to ensure accurate and complete migration of data elements.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Implement and oversee rigorous data quality checks and validation processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of migrated data.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with data governance standards and security protocols in the Azure cloud environment.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate closely with IT teams, business analysts, and other stakeholders to align data migration strategies with broader business goals.
  • Facilitate effective communication channels between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring clarity and understanding of the migration process.
  • Collaborate with IT and the client's business areas including Product owners and their teams to address technical issues, troubleshoot errors, and optimise performance during migration.
  • Help the client prepare for the migration process.

Problem Solving and Innovation

  • Address and resolve complex technical challenges encountered during migration, employing a problem-solving approach that leverages the latest industry practices.
  • Continuously explore opportunities for process improvement and automation, staying abreast of emerging trends and technologies in data migration and cloud solutions.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the migration processes, decisions, and architectures.
  • Provide regular and clear progress updates to stakeholders, highlighting achievements, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead and mentor a team of data migration specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment and providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Encourage continuous learning and development within the team, particularly in areas related to cloud technologies and data management.
  • Lead the data team's collaboration with data analysts, developers, business analysts and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives remain aligned with organisational goals.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities throughout the engagement for process optimisation and automation to enhance the efficiency of data migration processes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data migration.
