Associate Java Developer

This position involves designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting complex software systems.  They will work closely with Business Analysts and customers to gather requirements in order to ensure the customer’s business needs and expectations are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.  This Developer will also diagnose, isolate, and resolve software problems.  They will prepare and modify technical documentation.  Additional responsibilities include performing code reviews, providing feedback, mentoring, and guiding the skill development for other Developers.

Job Functions

  • Researches, complies, and evaluates information used in the development and maintenance of very large and complex systems to satisfy business needs.
  • Interprets specifications and requests and understands how changes impact current applications and systems. 
  • Codes, tests, implements complex system changes, and ensures that all programming changes and enhancements are thoroughly documented. 
  • Quickly diagnoses complex production support problems; determines and implements quality solutions in a timely fashion to reduce business impact.
  • Interfaces regularly with team, key customers, and stakeholders to report progress, problems, and defects. 
  • Stays up to date with the latest technologies and trends to bring in best practices.
  • Develops and maintains substantial company and industry knowledge.
  • Ensures compliance with security aspects of adhering to enterprise policies.
  • Manages individual tasks on projects and may lead projects or team members with moderate requirements.
  • Provides leadership as a model of how others should interact and accomplish tasks and is considered a top expert by peers in one or more areas of expertise.

Qualifications

  • Typically, 2+ years of applicable work and/or technical experience.
  • Typically, post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or relevant field.
  • Proven knowledge in Java development as well as additional object-oriented programming languages.  
  • Proficient developing and maintaining systems with the following languages and technologies: Angular, JavaScript, MS SQL, Git, RESTful services, Containerized Deployment (Docker), Spring Frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Batch).
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to build consensus with others on best solutions.
  • Superb organizational and time management skills with the ability to visualize milestones and steps critical to reach successful outcomes.
  • Well-honed ability to solve complex technical problems offering various options while providing pros and cons of each approach.
  • Excellent collaboration skills both within the team and across other teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members verbally and in writing, while considering varying levels of business and technical skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, coachable, and committed to continuous learning.

Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $67,500 to $83,175. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees. 

This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and company performance.
