POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Tax is responsible for leading the Company's tax function, including tax strategy, compliance, planning, and risk management. This role ensures adherence to all federal, state, and local tax regulations and develops policies and processes that promote compliance, efficiency, and tax optimization aligned with the Company's overall risk posture.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Oversee all aspects of tax accounting and compliance, including U.S. federal, state, and local income and indirect taxes.
- Lead the preparation and timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns, including related analysis, documentation, and support.
- Manage all tax audits and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities, coordinating directly with agencies and external advisors as needed.
- Develop and implement proactive tax planning strategies that optimize the Company's tax position while aligning with the Company's risk appetite and business objectives.
- Estimate taxable income on a quarterly basis and recommend shareholder distribution amounts in accordance with applicable agreements.
- Serve as a trusted tax advisor to senior leadership, shareholders, and business units on the tax impact of strategic, operational, and financial decisions.
- Support the FP&A team by forecasting and monitoring cash tax obligations and payments.
- Build and lead a high-performing tax team: provide coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, and career development opportunities.
- Remain current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and best practices; assess and implement technology and process improvements to drive efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage and cultivate relationships with third-party service providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, value-added services aligned with the Company's needs and expectations.
- Foster a culture of compliance, integrity, and continuous improvement across the tax function.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
- Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Deep understanding of pass-through entity taxation, indirect tax (e.g., sales/use tax), and corporate tax strategy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with tax software and ERP systems (Great Plains preferred).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive tax experience in a corporate environment or public accounting (Big 4 preferred).
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex tax matters, including coordination with outside legal and accounting professionals.
- Experience working with pass-through entities and private company shareholder structures.
- Strong knowledge of tax accounting standards and GAAP/ASC 740.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certified Public Accountant, MBA or Masters of Taxation preferred
