PROGRAM END DATE (Last Day Students in Session):August 1st, 2024

EMPLOYEE START DATE:June 24th, 2024

EMPLOYEE END DATE:August 2nd, 2024

TRAINING DATES: June 24th - June 28th (all staff)

DUTY DAYS/HOURS:Monday - Friday; 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM

LOCATIONS: Arleta, Atkinson, Boise-Eliot, Capitol Hill, Faubion, James John, Peninsula, Rigler, Sabin, Vestal, Whitman

CONTINGENCIES:

All positions are contingent on enrollment of students. It is essential that applicants remain available until the registration process is complete. We will, however, make earlier commitments as definite positions become evident.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Summer Acceleration Academy (SAA) is a supplemental summer academic program located at 11 sites across this district this summer. Each of these sites is a "hub" site and will serve priority students from that school and neighboring school communities. Classrooms will be organized by grade-level and will each support about 15 students in reading, math, and STEAM curriculum (curriculum and lesson plans provided for teaching staff). PPS staff from any site can apply to work at a Summer Acceleration Academy hub.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Paraeducators support the instructional program developed and directed by Special Education teacher(s) and/or specialist(s) for students with developmental and educational disabilities from K-12 through age 21. Services may include specially designed instruction and related services, behavioral guidance and/or management, and/or physical management of students. Services are provided using independent judgment, as assigned, qualified, and appropriate to the Paraeducator role.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Participate as an effective team member in a manner that promotes collaboration for student success.
  2. Collect and report relevant performance and behavioral data of individual learners that supports the planning process.
  3. Implement complex instructional strategies in the classroom, on-campus learning environments, homes, work sites, and other community-based settings.
  4. As applicable, assist with modification, development, and/or preparation of learning strategies, materials, and activities to accommodate different learning styles, ability levels, and other learning needs of students.
  5. Implement and modify behavioral strategies with students that are consistent with classroom and building behavioral goals.
  6. As applicable, perform tasks assigned by occupational and physical therapists, speech language pathologists, and other providers in the delivery of related services.
  7. Carry out functional (informal) assessment activities to document information about learner strengths and needs.
  8. Comply with all applicable district, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.
  9. Perform support tasks to enhance effectiveness of the learning environment.
  10. Maintain and improve professional skills in order to contribute to the learning of all students.
  11. Perform medical protocols as delegated by registered nurses.
  12. Provide physical assistance to students with disabilities which may include toileting, changing, feeding, lifting, and supervising a variety of student activities including playground, cafeteria, and bus loading/riding.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Must hold one of the following to meet ESSA guidelines:
  • Associates Degree or higher (official transcript required at time of hire)
  • Two (2) years of college completed (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits earned) (official transcript required at time of hire)
  • Passing scores from the Praxis ParaPro Assessment

Work Experience: Two (2) years successful related experience or training preferred.

Skills and Abilities:
  1. Ability to communicate effectively.
  2. Ability to work as a team member.
  3. Ability to gather and report relevant data.
  4. First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain.


Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50lbs. May also require the ability to restrain 50 to 100lbs. Requires continuous reaching, bending, crouching, twisting, kneeling, and the repetitive use of arms, hands, wrists, and legs.

PAY RATE: Current PPS employees who work the same summer position as their regular school year position will be paid their current hourly rate of pay, but not less than the hourly summer school rate. All other hires will be paid $22.40 per hour.
