PROGRAM END DATE (Last Day Students in Session):August 1st, 2024

EMPLOYEE START DATE:June 24th, 2024

EMPLOYEE END DATE:August 2nd, 2024

TRAINING DATES: June 24th - June 28th (all staff)

DUTY DAYS/HOURS:Monday - Friday; 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM

LOCATIONS: Arleta, Atkinson, Boise-Eliot, Capitol Hill, Faubion, James John, Peninsula, Rigler, Sabin, Vestal, Whitman

CONTINGENCIES:

All positions are contingent on enrollment of students. It is essential that applicants remain available until the registration process is complete. We will, however, make earlier commitments as definite positions become evident.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Summer Acceleration Academy (SAA) is a supplemental summer academic program located at 11 sites across this district this summer. Each of these sites is a "hub" site and will serve priority students from that school and neighboring school communities. Classrooms will be organized by grade-level and will each support about 15 students in reading, math, and STEAM curriculum (curriculum and lesson plans provided for teaching staff). PPS staff from any site can apply to work at a Summer Acceleration Academy hub.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Responsible for providing training, coaching and support to staff to ensure that teachers have the tools, resources and skills required to meet the needs of all students. Develop materials, work directly with students, and provide individual coaching to teachers on instructional materials.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assist school staff in the use of relevant assessment and student data in curriculum and instructional planning and decision making.
  2. Work with staff to help them develop culturally proficient instruction.
  3. Work directly with students to support the instructional environment.
  4. Work with other staff in the school (individually and in groups) to help them improve their classroom practices, especially around strengthening literacy across the curriculum, utilizing culturally relevant instructional strategies based in best practices.
  5. Design and facilitate professional development for cross-disciplinary teams regarding culturally relevant and effective common reading and writing strategies.
  6. Design and facilitate professional development for staff regarding the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies and Technical Subjects; and Mathematics.
  7. Provide direct support to teachers in planning for and facilitating demonstration lessons, with a particular focus on supporting teachers in implementing core curriculum using differentiated instructional approaches that meet the needs of all students.
  8. Work with school leadership on other instructional areas deemed important to the school.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in an elementary school campus environment with extensive student, parent and public contact and frequent interruptions.

Hazards: Potential conflict situations. Employees may be subject to temperature extremes, fumes, odors, dust and exposure to bodily fluids and blood.

Physical Demands: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a school classroom, playground and campus setting; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other classroom, library and business equipment; sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling, bending at the waist; lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying school equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read, prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.

LICENSURE/ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS:

All teachers must be properly licensed by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission as a Professional Educator and endorsed in the endorsement area for which they are applying to teach.

PAY RATE: Current PPS PAT Educators who hold a regular school year position will be paid their current hourly rate of pay, but not less than the hourly summer school rate. All other hires (including current PAT Educators in a temporary assignment) will be paid $47.25 per hour.
