Coaching Opening: High School Assistant Coach/Middle School Coach

Key points of the job description for a High School Assistant Coach/Middle School Coach:
  • Directly responsible to the head coach and is expected to carry out the same responsibilities as the head coach when put in charge of a team. The assistant/middle school coach should carry out all duties and responsibilities that are asked of him/her within the rules and regulations of the district. The assistant/middle school coach is expected to follow the policy set by the administrator.
  • A coach should display a competitive spirit, possess emotional self-control, and set goals and standards for themselves and the team which they represent, and reflect the school and district philosophy of athletics.
  • A coach should enlist participants and create interest in the activity by whatever means are available.
  • The person designated as coach should possess competencies that will enable the coach to organize, instruct and prepare the athletes in the fundamentals of the game, to coach athletes in using the fundamentals in the strategic manner, and to play by the rules set forth.

The High School Assistant/Middle School Coach will be responsible for the following:
  • Directly responsible to the head coach.
  • Responsible for the conduct, both on and off the playing surface, of all persons under his/her jurisdiction.
  • Cooperate with the faculty and parents to cultivate their friendship and loyalty.
  • Work within the rules and regulations as set forth by the state, Oregon School Activities Association, the district and the school.
  • Confer with athletic director to be certain that all competing athletes maintain their eligibility.
  • Be familiar with the Athletic Manual and regard to rules and regulations set forth by the state and district.
  • Maintain a daily log of your practices, teaching skill progressions, to whom and reviews. Document all safety procedures (water breaks)

All coaches will need to complete the following prior to employment:
  1. NFHS/ASEP Certification
  2. First Aid Card (CPR and AED trained)
  3. District Fingerprinting/Criminal check
  4. Completion of OSAA Concussion Test
  5. Completion of ODE Steroid Test
  6. Completion of OSAA Heat Test
  7. Head Up Football
  8. Cheer and Dance/Drill Spirit Safety Training
  9. Completion of Portland Public School District paperwork and trainings.

Salary Range: $1,541.00 to $5,007.00
