As a Director of Enterprise Crisis/Event Management within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA; other locations may be considered such as Cleveland/Strongsville, OH, Birmingham, AL, Charlotte, NC, Dallas, TX or Phoenix, AZ. The position is primarily based in a PNC location. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities may be performed remotely, at the manager's discretion.

This role will oversee a team who monitors on a 24/7 basis, local, state, national and global events that could affect bank operations and safety to employees (civil, geopolitical, economic, natural). Assess hazards and prepare plans and resources to respond to emergencies and disasters to minimize risk to people and property. Meet with public safety officials and build relationships with those entities to better collaborate in preparation for and during hazardous events.

This team, in conjunction with others, will coordinate and execute the response in the event of an actual disaster.

A successful candidate will have experience with emergency management, crisis risk management and life safety; have strong analytical and critical thinking to lead through crisis; continually improve on broadcast notifications through various communication channels; and, provide input for awareness, education/training and instructions for bank employees.

In addition, this role will lead:

Crisis Planning and Development:
• Develop and maintain crisis management plans and protocols.
• Identify potential crisis scenarios and vulnerabilities.
• Conduct risk assessments and scenario planning.
• Develop and deliver crisis communication training programs.

Crisis Response and Execution:
• Lead the execution of crisis plans, coordinating with cross-functional teams.
• Oversee evacuation procedures and coordinate with emergency services.
• Manage communication channels during a crisis.
• Monitor and assess the situation, making key decisions and setting priorities.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
• Develop and implement crisis communication strategies.
• Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and other stakeholders.
• Ensure clear, consistent, and empathetic messaging for internal and external audiences.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders during a crisis.

Post-Crisis Activities:
• Conduct post-incident reviews and analysis to identify lessons learned.
• Implement preventative measures to avoid future crises.
• Support the development of proactive strategies to mitigate risks.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Effective communication is crucial for coordinating with teams, managing media, and engaging stakeholders.

Works well under pressure: Has the ability to stay calm to drive disciplined and methodical response during high pressure situations.

Problem-solving and analytical skills: The ability to quickly assess a situation, identify key issues, and develop effective solutions is essential.

Leadership and decision-making skills: Crisis managers must be able to lead teams, make quick decisions under pressure, and maintain composure during stressful situations.

Adaptability and flexibility: The ability to adjust to changing circumstances and adapt plans as needed is crucial.

Knowledge of crisis management principles and best practices: This includes understanding of risk assessment, communication strategies, and emergency response protocols.

Job Description
  • Governs the Enterprise wide business continuity function and lifecycle to ensure the organization proactively plans and effectively responds to potential crises. Plans and oversees the execution of the organization's crisis response.
  • Leads planning and testing strategy for technology and operations. Oversees the execution of business recovery, crisis management, emergency management, contingency planning and disaster-preparedness planning. Acts as a subject matter expert on business continuity issues.
  • Forms the vision and strategy for business continuity lifecycle planning and business impact analysis. Responsible for driving resiliency and recovery strategies of human capital, supplier and operational/data centers.
  • Guides the organizations' business units through the development of their crisis management plans, ensuring they have complied with organization-wide strategies.
  • Creates an environment of consistent and effective crisis management that protects the business, builds relationships and develops awareness and accountability for crisis management. Supervises the development and delivery of training on business continuity.

Work Experience
Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree and higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications. Industry -relevant experience is typically 8+ years. At least 5 years of prior management experience is typically required. Proven leadership experience with a large scope of responsibility is required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
