Databases are critical to PJM's mission. The data housed in our databases are used to make decisions on a daily basis that ensure the safety, reliability and security of the bulk electric power system for more than 65 million people. We are seeking a forward-looking and technically savvy new team member that is passionate about developing new database solutions, and is enthusiastic about applying new ideas to real-world problems.
As a PJM Database Administrator you will support PJM's mission by:
- Overseeing our database infrastructure to maximize uptime
- Provide first-level support for business units to resolve issues related to database platforms
- Implement PJM and regulatory industry standards for database security and performance
- Setup and maintain database platforms and related products to ensure supportability
- Collaborate with business units on the implementation of application functionality that requires database changes
Essential Functions:
- Work with customers to provide acceptable data persistence solutions to business needs
- Work in a team environment to ensure that databases are operational and compliant
- Ensure needed operation and maintenance activities take place in a timely manner
- Provide and implement suggestions on improving the operations of PJMs database platforms
- Provide input on and drive execution of PJMs database technology strategy
- Provide technology leadership in onboarding new database technologies and architectures
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
- 0-5 years of experience working with any database technology as an administrator or power user
- 0-5 years of experience working in a fast paced technology & team focused environment
- 0-5 years of experience working in a Linux or Unix environment
- Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
- Ability to visualize and solve complex problems
Preferred:
- MBA, Business Administration
- At least 4 years of experience with software development, integrating complex systems with database technology, and working with Oracle, SQL Server or MongoDB databases
- Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
- Experience in developing applications using Oracle PL/SQL
