We are looking for an individual contributor Director Analytics Data Architect, that will serve as an experienced and dynamic Staff Analytics Data Architect within our Agile Analytics Engineering team. They will drive the development of an Advanced Analytics Platform for democratizing access to data, building analytical products and the use of analytics across Pfizer. In your role as Data Architect, you'll lead the strategic approach for embedding analytics within in-house developed software solutions. The scope of responsibility spans drug discovery and development, medical affairs, marketing and brand management, sales, managed markets, manufacturing operations, trade and distribution, and finance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, solid understanding of big data technologies and the ability to partner effectively with cross functional engineering and business teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and optimize data architecture, working backwards from business requirements, to enable single source of truth for customers and ensure scalability, performance and alignment with industry best practices.
  • Create and maintain centralized documentation for data architecture standards.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity and security best practices conform to data governance best practices Establish and maintain references, ontologies, data types, dimensional models, and lineage relevant to Pfizer Commercial Analytics Data products.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in data processing pipelines, optimizing data architecture and code to enable improved data availability SLAs.
  • Create automated governance processes that assure adoption and enforce adoption of best practices in data architecture.
  • Design and implement data lineage standards.
  • Communicate and partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to achieve alignment on best practices and providing relevant insights into data architecture decisions.
  • Evaluate and recommend data management tools and technologies to improve the data management and engineering landscape of the team.
  • Work with platform engineers to define standards for data management, data integrity data quality, ETL plumbing and assist in development of frameworks that support these needs.
  • Ensure solutions observe data security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, China).
  • Mentor junior architects and data engineers in best practices for data modeling.

Collaboration, Partnership, and Mentoring

  • Collaborate with senior leadership, internal and external business partners to align on objectives and line-level deliverables.
  • Architect, lead and build test automation tools and frameworks to test pipelines.
  • Partner with Pfizer Digital Engineering team and identify server APIs that need to be refactored or customized for data analytics and reporting and align the server events for execution in already established data pipelines.
  • In collaboration with senior leadership, partner with the Platform/Digital and DevOps team to specify platform/tool enhancements, observability & monitoring, security/audit, and alerting on various data pipelines and jobs as needed for operation the commercial analytics engineering organization.
  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices in design, development, and automation.

Domain Knowledge and Standards

  • Ramp up quickly in understanding the data sources required for data products and the purpose of commercial analytics in a pharma setting.
  • Prioritize excellence in data engineering by following F.A.I.R. principals and adheres to engineering and documentation standards set in the organization.

Agile Practices and Deployment

  • Lead deployments to production and ensure the team is following agile best practices in the team working agreement.
  • Ensure the team adheres to agile principle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's or PhD a plus) in computer science, engineering, or related field. Ph.D. Master's degree preferred in engineering, economics, statistics, computer science, or related quantitative field
  • 10+ years of backend software or data engineering experience with at least 4 years' experience as lead data engineer of a development scrum team.
  • Recent Healthcare Life Sciences (pharma preferred) and ecosystem professional industry experience is preferred, commercial/marketing experience is a plus.

Technical Skillset

  • Accomplishments and significant experience in building systems using relational, structured, and unstructured data stores and databases.
  • Experience in query optimization and tuning performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong technical writing and database documentation experience required.
  • Experience in Cloud, enabling AI/ML, automation, and modern data stacks (SQL, NoSQL, Big Data, etc.) preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of data architecture, security, and compliance best practices.
  • Proficient in an Agile software development.
  • Team-focused mentality with proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including reporting concise progress and escalating risks to Sr. Management.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical thinking abilities and curiosity about data.
  • Ability to make sound decisions with limited information.
  • Comfortable working in an organic environment which requires adjustments to change and focus on detail.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to be the dev team lead on tight deadlines, delegate, and conduct RCAs.
  • You have a passion for applied empirical analytics and answering hard questions with data, and the demonstrated ability to conceptualize, promote, and implement business insights.
  • Ability to deliver consistent high-quality results while working in a dynamic & fast paced environment with extreme attention to detail and ability audit engineers' work and skill sets growth.
  • Strong communication, technical writing and requirements gathering skills with attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for excellence with curiosity and self-starter desire to learn.
  • Solid sense of ownership, customer service, collaboration, and integrity
  • Proactive in approach, focus on innovation and ability to learn new technologies, previous experience in innovation roles preferred.
  • Ability to work outside own area of expertise, perform business discovery, simplify problems, extract key information, and propose innovative solutions.

Work Location Assignment: Flexible

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,200.00 to $248,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
