Role Purpose:

R&D Platforms Director will lead Global Foods R&D Portfolio Stewardship work on Long term portfolio, including horizon developement, integrating a broad range of scientific, consumer, regulatory, life science, and ingredient science considerations into strategies related to portfolio, product, ingredient, package and manufacturing recipes and product designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Global Foods Portfolio Stewardship technical agenda - from horizon issue Identification, Assessments, Strategic Recommendations, Planning and operationalizing of key topics and programs.
  • Lead and Partner on creation of key strategic recommendations for Stewardship Topics - Including scientific assessments, assessment of risks, creation of Recommendations and Plans to address identified Risks, Issues and Opportunities.
  • Lead Key Identified Stewardship topics and issues, and operational plans for Global foods category- Including incorporation of Regulatory frameworks, emerging and contemplated food product or ingredient regulation, horizon issues in foods such as ingredient contaminants and Product and Ingredient Risks.
  • Lead and work across a Cross Functional Matrix with both R&D internal partners including regulatory and scientific affairs, and functional, technical and commercial business leaders to create integrated plans and translate portfolio stewardship risks into transformation plans (including plans for risk mitigation of ingredients, creation of processing methods to address risks, to ensuring compliance and fit for purpose products in accordance with regulation
  • Serve as Subject leader for Portfolio stewardship issues - supporting programming and execution across markets and enterprise, across a broad range of matters across product, process, package, ingredient.
  • Lead Creation of Programs, Toolkits, Training materials, and briefing materials to partners and stakeholder on stewardship matters.
  • Support and partner on Global Steering teams on Horizon scanning matters - across ingredients, contaminants, packaging, and product.
  • Provide and collaborate on internal executive briefings at regular cadence on Portfolio stewardship outlook, arising issues, and progress to identify threats to the business

Compensation and Benefits for US location:

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $113,300 - $226,600 based on a full-time schedule.
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary.
  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility; target payout is 25% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • and an additional target payout of 10% of annual salary is paid out over 3 years following the end of the performance period.
  • Long term incentive equity may be awarded based on eligibility and performance.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years experience of Scientific or technical leadership of initiatives in product, process, ingredients
  • Experience in synthesizing scientific and technical information, legislation, and scoping, shaping into strategic technical and/or business strategies
  • Strong leadership & management skills to drive insights into strategies and aligned action
  • Demonstrated experience in leading complex programs across a matrixed team, and across an enterprise
  • Experience in Regulatory, Scientific Affairs, or Quality Assurance, an asset. Experience in risk assessments in ingredients, contaminants or food contact materials an asset.
  • Education Bachelors Degree in STEM Science, Engineering, Nutrition Science, Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or Toxicology an asset
  • Results oriented, proactive self-starter, able to work effectively on own initiative and as a team player, effective within a high degree of ambiguity.
  • Leadership & Influence skills . Ability to network effectively, strength in influencing without direct authority, effective collaborator with ability to work within and across a matrixed organization and ability to deliver through collaboration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; including the ability to interpret complex subject matter and succinctly summarize needs, recommendations and achievements, communicate to range of stakeholders both technical and non-technical partners
  • Strategic thinking ability to provide insight to the business from both a strategic and operational, technical perspective.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: An expansive thinker who will engage in continual learning to connect new insights to business opportunities.
  • Global acumen: sensitivity and understanding to global and local context
