This position is critical to the Rhinelander Global Center of Breeding Excellence ability to serve the Global VSA trialing short- and long-term goals. The Farm Manager is responsible for managing all functions and farm operations activities. Develop and execute plans based on breeding program needs related to equipment operation during field preparation, planting, in-season pesticide spray program, Irrigation operations, harvest & cover crop planting.

Lead equipment operation and data collection in a highly sensitive area of plot work with potential to highly impact the success of the breeding and trialing programs on site and globally. Work with site Director on CAPEX projects and long-term planning for site relating to farm operations and equipment. Responsible for seed management relating to planting, harvest, and storage. Manage farm personnel and interact with a highly diverse team to ensure all farm activities are completed with excellence while leading appropriate EHS programs.

Responsibilities

  • Annual crop plan and accompanying schedules, including projections of necessary supplies; establish an annual schedule for farm planting, irrigation, cultivation and harvesting; predict labor and equipment needs.
  • Lead and assure appropriate use of pesticides and record keeping, arrange field-based pest and disease control
  • Experience coordinating multiple groups/projects as a team leader
  • Experience in operation of farm and irrigation equipment
  • Experience with utilization and management of Precision Ag software and technology
  • Experience with supply requisition, maintenance, and repair of field and shop equipment
  • Must have supervisory experience
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in a safe, accurate and efficient manner and lead process improvement
  • Pot research experience
  • Lead CAPEX planning and requests for farm related equipment and projects
  • Work with Director to develop short- and long-term CAPEX plans for farm and Rhinelander site
  • Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicate changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $89,000 - $149,000.
  • Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process.
  • Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 10% of annual salary paid out annually.
  • Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Horticulture, Crop Science, Agronomy, or related field
  • 5 years experience in Agriculture
  • Excellent computer skills for data acquisition and reporting
  • Experience in the research & agriculture production and a practical knowledge of farming or food production operations with potato and oats. Comfortable with hands on activities in both the field and office
  • Possess the people skills necessary to be an effective team player, to interact constructively with professional scientific staff, to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Exhibits confidence in self and others; Inspires and motivates others to perform well; effectively influences actions and opinions of others
  • Ability to project long term needs of the farm related to equipment, infrastructure, and personnel needs
  • Personal flexibility and agility to respond quickly and adjust to changing priorities set forth by Senior Leadership and PepsiCo
  • 3+ years potato production or research experience is desirable
  • Desire and ability to learn PepsiCo policies and priorities while developing new skills and expanded knowledge
  • Understand and execute on the strategic goals of PepsiCo
  • Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicate changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities
