Position Summary

The Head of Legal - APAC will work on a diverse set of matters that straddle business, data privacy, and regulatory compliance. You are collaborative, curious, creative, and a clear communicator (both written and verbal) with expertise in the legal areas we encounter regularly, such as commercial technology transactions, privacy, data protection, intellectual property and employment law. Reporting into the global Chief Legal Officer, you will be a key member of our global Pax8 Legal team and key advisor to the Pax8 APAC teams (Australia, New Zealand and Asia) on the legal and regulatory elements of the company's global and regional operations.

This role can be based from anywhere in Australia, and there will be travel required to our Brisbane office, other countries in the APAC region, and the US.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, review, and advise on contracts, and other transactional documents.
  • Manage outside counsel.
  • Advise on all legal matters (data privacy, employment law, intellectual property, etc.) for the APAC region.
  • Provide all necessary support to M&A activity.
  • Answer questions from internal clients and recommend actions in a timely manner.
  • Support and provide guidance on regulatory compliance across the APAC region to ensure requirements are met locally.
  • Drive your own personal development and performance improvements by participating in learning paths, receiving peer or manager coaching, and taking on stretch projects or on the job training.
About You:
  • Qualified lawyer, with at least ten (10) years' post qualification experience in corporate or commercial law.
  • You will have gained legal experience in a recognised law firm, as well as a technology company.
  • You will have worked as part of an in-house legal team (ideally for an international company),or have the drive and aptitude to make the move in-house.
  • Well-developed understanding of commercial, contract, and risk management issues (including a good understanding of the compliance issues) facing a global business.
  • Substantial experience across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia in data privacy, M&A and employment law.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GDPR, SOC2, ISO and other relevant accreditations.
  • Ability to make sense of complex, high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to use compelling arguments to gain support and commitment of others.
  • ​​Highly organised, detail-oriented with an ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
