Safety & Security Specialist Job Description  

Job Title:  Safety & Security Specialist: Fulltime, Thursday-Sunday

Reports To: Safety & Security Manager-Protecting People & Places

Required Years of Experience: 5+

Location: Downtown Portland

Patagonia is looking for an experienced, compassionate, highly motivated individual to assist in all areas of Safety & Security.  This is a new role in our Retail Store that must embody Patagonia’s unique culture and demonstrate an open and inclusive approach to making sure everyone who has contact with Patagonia feels safe and welcome. Success will require a demonstrated commitment to ensuring Patagonia consistently offers a just and equitable work environment.

What You’ll Do/Job Functions:

  • Monitors & patrols interior & exterior, checks for unsafe conditions, hazards etc.
  • Responds to incidents of shoplifting, trespassing, customer issues, medical emergency, fire, threats, homeless persons, suspicious activity, alarms etc.
  • Observes and reports activities and incidents.
  • Controls & monitors access into the building.
  • Prepares accurate logs and reports as needed.
  • Works closely with management, employees & customers.
  • Conducts quarterly clinics with store staff covering safety, loss prevention, de-escalation, etc.
  • Learns and understands basic OSHA and Fire laws.
  • More specific duties will be discussed during interview process.

Experience You Bring/Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years combined experience in physical security, law enforcement, military, community outreach, customer service and/or emergency response coordination. 
  • Show proof and maintain company standards of full COVID Vaccination.
  • Be at least 21 years of age with at least a high school education or equivalent (GED).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing racial justice and equity.   
  • Possess knowledge and skills needed to successfully and inclusively, work within a multicultural, multicolored, multinational, and otherwise diverse business environment.
  • Acknowledge and continually try to surface and address their own biases, stereotypes, privilege, and power.

  • Ability to pass a criminal records check. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Oregon Unarmed Private Security Guard Card. 
  • Ability to pass and maintain 1st Aid, CPR & AED certifications. 
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time and lift, up to 50lbs. 
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply basic OSHA and Fire laws. 
  • Basic computer skills & knowledge (Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Zoom). 
  • Knowledge & understanding of CCTV systems. 
  • Knowledge & understanding of access control systems (Brivo).
