General Summary
As the Material Supplier Quality Engineer, you will help to ensure all materials at Patagonia meet or exceed our high standards in material production and perform as expected in our finished Products.  The Material Supplier Quality Engineer will work to develop and maintain integrity in our standards setting and evaluation processes to minimize quality risks while driving focused continuous quality improvement within the Patagonia Materials Supply base.

  • Partner and coordinate with Materials Performance, Color, and Materials Development to ensure visibility to our work, compatibility between group needs/requirements, and ongoing mutual support to improving the whole Patagonia Materials process that ensures high quality Patagonia Materials.
  • Communicate and coordinate with upstream and downstream partners on the status, results, and recommendations of any testing, program, or accreditation assessments
  • Partner with/support MSQ Manager/Materials Quality Leadership to improve the strategy, process, and tools with which we monitor, manage, and develop our Materials Supplier base (requirements, testing, ranking, accreditation/certification, etc.)
  • Making “Best Product” Materials
    • Collaborate with Material Performance, Color quality, and Surface Design quality teams to ensure development and production materials meet category performance and Quality Built in requirements
    • Ensure prior to production every production material has an acknowledged specification and material production file
    • Run internal testing on materials as needed
  • Materials Supplier Quality Management
    • Implement Programs, Systems, and Tools into Patagonia Materials Supplier base that improve Materials Quality, Supplier Capability to meet brand requirements, and transparency to quality performance
    • Manage resolution of quality issues with material suppliers by identifying/resolving root cause of non-conformance, utilizing internal and external expertise as needed
  • Materials Systems, Standards & Testing Oversight
    • Request and manage production testing and approvals, ensuring materials meet all regulatory and critical internal performance, color, and aesthetic requirements
    • Partner with Materials Performance, Color, and other key teams to evaluating new test methods and ensure applicability and adoption to production testing
    • Monitor and maintain key databases/internal systems, material specifications, and seasonal developments to ensure process and data integrity
  • Materials Quality Metrics
    • Collaborate with Material Performance, Color quality, and Surface design quality on Materials Quality Metrics that accurately report RM, Category, and vendor score carding to build and maintain an understanding of material suppliers’ capabilities/quality levels
    • Use visual data analytic tools to present seasonal production testing results cross functionally

    Experience You Bring:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Textile Science, Apparel Engineering, Apparel Design, Quality, or related field.
    • Knowledge/Experience of Industry Standard Test Methods and application based on material selection
    • Knowledge/Experience of textile construction to allow appropriate interpretation of test results
    • Knowledge/Experience with Textile/Mill Quality processes
    • Knowledge/Experience with digital & analog color evaluation and color approval a plus
    • Ability to collate and communicate relevant test data for cross functional decision making
    • Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism and deliver results against tight and complex timelines. 
    • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required.
    • Excellent communication skills:  written, verbal, and presentation.
    • Experience communicating and collaborating with global partners.
    • Ability to travel, representing the Company in a professional and capable manner.
