Job Description

Collaborates with the Vice President of IPE regarding interprofessional education within the NORTHWELL HEALTH. The Clinical Education Specialist facilitates interprofessional education using simulation and other educational modalities. Operational and educational responsibilities shall extend to all professional disciplines represented in the health system, including the Hofstra-North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, who utilize PSI.


Job Responsibility


  • Assists in coordinating education, duties, scheduling, and responsibilities of technicians; assists in the operational aspects of simulation and clinical skills assessment.

  • Assists the educational and technical operations of the endovascular simulator; coordinates the schedule for all standardized patient encounters and is present in the control booth during the encounters.

  • Interfaces with equipment manufacturers regarding troubleshooting and system problems; maintains records of repairs; researches and places orders for materials, including mannequins.

  • Assists in installing simulation and skills software and hardware upgrades and maintains functionality of simulator manikin components as directed by manufacturer support.

  • Acquires and installs digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record simulated sessions.

  • Provides technical support for computer based multimedia systems and their components including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, LCD projectors, and other equipment.

  • Provides technical and educational support for the computer programs and digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record all events occurring in both the simulation and clinical skills center.

  • Prepares simulator by programming, testing and running scenarios with faculty instructors; evaluates new equipment and identifies opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.

  • Participates in technical training as necessary; attends conferences to stay current with simulation technology.

  • Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.

  • Job Qualification


    • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.

    • Bachelor Degree in Patient Care, healthcare, or related field, required. Master's Degree, preferred.

    • Minimum of five (5) years related clinical patient care experience, required. Experience with simulation preferred.

    • Current license to practice as a clinical professional; for example, Registered Professional Nurse, Physician's Assistant, or Respiratory Therapist, required.

    • Certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider and instructor, preferred.

    • Demonstrated ability in coaching and mentoring to others.
