Overview
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Structural & Thermal Analysis Engineering Manager 2 is a strategic member of the Deployables leadership team. They are responsible for leading a structural engineering and analysis team providing support to the Deployables programs in Goleta. The primary responsibility will be to provide technical guidance and direction to the engineering analysis team for deployable designs involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials, parts, and mechanical / electromechanical assemblies. Tasks will include analysis for stress margin, natural frequencies, clearances, and structural and thermal modeling of complex deployables and components. Specific structural engineering specialties will include dynamics and loads, stability, fatigue, nonlinear and thermo-elastic analysis. Tools utilized may include Nastran, Ansys, CREO, Thermal Desktop, and a variety of software applications.
The Structural & Thermal Analysis Engineering Manager 2 will also be responsible for the planning, standardizing, implementing and enhancing of engineering analysis capabilities in support of hardware design, fabrication, and testing.
Role and Responsibilities:
Accountable for meeting the Structural Engineering safety, quality, delivery and cost expectations of internal and external customers within entire product value streams. Ensures program analysis plans are developed and executed to meet internal and external customer requirements.
Subject matter expert on Structural Engineering and Analysis across the value stream.
Use independent advanced knowledge and ideas to guide the development and implementation of technical solutions to highly complex problems.
Create, maintain and improve standards for all engineering analysis guidelines, checklists, tools, and training.
Foster engineering analyst development through mentoring and coaching
Create and/or review program analysis products produced or internal and external customers.
Monitor Program execution and support of SDRL and SOW deliverables, including PDR, CDR, TRR technical compliance
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or related engineering discipline and 10 years of design related experience; OR a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related disciple with 8 years' design related experience
5+ years leadership experience in a management role or as an analysis lead
Experience with FEA modeling & analysis (ANSYS or Femap/NASTRAN) for design of structures
Experience in both static and dynamic stress analysis
Knowledge of failure theories for metallic, composite, adhesive, and honeycomb core structures
Ability to provide technical guidance and direction through all phases of a program
Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with senior leadership on a technical level
US Citizenship is a requirement
Preferred Qualifications:
Mechanical Engineering experience in the spacecraft or aerospace industry
Experience with structures and mechanisms for moving mechanical assemblies such as solar arrays, booms, release and drive actuators, bearings, and other support structures and mechanisms for satellite subsystems
Demonstrated expertise in non-linear and transient FEA analysis
* Significant vibration test experience, including use of response and force limiting techniques
Salary Range: $156,500.00 - $234,700.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
