We are looking for you to join our team as a Systems Safety Engineer based out of Rancho Bernardo, CA or Emerado, ND. In this role, the selected candidate would be the RQ-4 USAF business area safety lead, responsible for the planning and execution of System Safety tasking. Also responsible for attending the Defect Review Board to understand, assess, and disposition defects as a board member. Candidate will also be the primary interface to the customer counterpart (System Safety SPO), responsible for ensuring the safety program maintains compliance to the latest System Safety Program Plan (SSPP), and communicate risks to leadership. Candidate must be able to identify hazards and assess and mitigate associated risk; eliminate hazards where possible. Maintain the HTS. Prepare risk assessments as required for non-compliances. Support SETR events and TIMs. Generate overarching compliance artifacts for AW certification (SSHAR, SAR, SCFTA, SSPP, etc.). Execute SSWGs and annual SSG. Provide Safety impacts to all GH CRs.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Applies knowledge, methodologies and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882E and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)
• Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems
• Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards
• Develops and evaluates systems, associated support equipment and facilities, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable safety specifications and standards
• Collaborate with various design teams in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses
• Applies engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, test, or evaluate military systems
• Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support of Airworthiness Certification IAW MIL-HDBK-516
• Evaluate integration and test anomalies and assist disposition and correction of issues found for safety
• Reviews architecture, requirements and interface artifacts for safety on complex hardware/ software systems
• Reviews Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification and potential hazardous operations
• Perform Safety requirements verification and selloff including development of verification plans
• Develops requirements and designs of complex aeronautical systems, including but not limited to, performing requirements traceability, assess implementations for hazard and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives
• Perform hardware/ software safety (Experience in AGILE development)
• Support system integration and test of complex aeronautical systems
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 12 years of experience OR Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 10 years of experience OR PhD in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience
• Strong working knowledge of Military system safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as: MIL-STD-882E, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and customers and work independently
• Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
• Understanding of requirements development, system/software architecture, hardware/software design, software code implementation, test, verification and validation
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance or higher within 12-month of start of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
• BS in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer engineering
• An active DoD Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
• Familiarity with requirements tools such as DOORS, Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, Agile software tools, JIRA, FISHEYE and/or Confluence
• Working knowledge of flight test engineering, Software systems integration engineering, and software test engineering
• Experience in military aviation, or pilot
Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
