One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer with demonstrated ability to lead systems engineers in the development of new technologies to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.

What You'll Get to Do:

Coordinate with a multi-disciplined team of engineers responsible for providing engineering support
In this role the selected individual will be an on-site Liaison Engineering source of the Test Platform Engineering Group support in day-to-day technical tasking related to a classified program
Work with software subsystems installations
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for Room Temperature Control Systems.
Collaborating with other functional areas on various aspects of product design/documentation, including procurement, production, logistics, or configuration management.
Mechanical Design and Documentation for Cryogenic Systems with a focus on Quantum Mechanics Principles.
Hands-on troubleshooting and inspection /software subsystems in support of prototyping, production, and/or test
Estimate task durations and execute according to schedules
Successful candidates in this role will have strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
Provide input into the design of hardware and custom hardware/software support technology.
This position will serve full-time on-site at our Linthicum, MD location OR our Annapolis Junction, MD location.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of relevant technical experience in design engineering, manufacturing engineering, or test engineering; Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 6+ years of relevant technical experience; PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 4+ years of relevant technical experience.
Experience creating 3D parametric models using any industry-standard 3D CAD package
Experience drafting, reviewing, or interpreting 2D mechanical drawings
Self-motivated and able to work productively and independently in a fast-paced environment
Good attention to detail, follow-through, and time-management skills
Demonstrated good verbal/written communication skills & proactive inter-personal initiative
Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph. U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in or providing engineering support to manufacturing or test/evaluation, particularly for DoD projects.
Experience working in a Scrum, Agile, or Kanban product-development environment
Experience with creating Assembly Drawings, Part Drawings, Cable Drawings, Parts Lists, Wire Lists, Schematics, and Work Instructions for Cryostats, Racks, and Test Equipment.
Experience in a technical leadership and/or management role.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
* Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance with Polygraph.
Salary Range: $119,200.00 - $178,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
